Telugu cinema, also known as Tollywood, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Telugu language, widely spoken in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Telugu cinema is based in Film Nagar, Hyderabad, India. The nickname ''Tollywood'' is a portmanteau of the words Telugu and Hollywood. By 2021, it has emerged as the largest film industry in India in terms of box-office. Since 1909, filmmaker Raghupathi Venkaiah Naidu was involved in producing short films and travelling to different regions in Asia to promote film work. In 1921, he produced the silent film, '' Bhishma Pratigna'', generally considered to be the first Telugu feature film, and hence, regarded as the ''Father of Telugu cinema''. Bhakta Raghunath
''Bhakta Raghunath'' is a 1960 Telugu-language biographical film, based on the life of ''Raghunatha dasa Goswami'', produced by G. Sadasivudu under the G.V.S. Productions banner and directed by Samudrala Sr. It stars Kanta Rao, Jamuna and N. T. Rama Rao in a special appearance, with music composed by Ghantasala. Plot Raghunatha is the son of Venkata Ramayya, an overseas businessman. Annapurna is the daughter of Veeraiah, a rich man in the same town. They both love each other and both families also like the proposal and perform their engagement. Unfortunately, Venkataramayya is bankrupted and he dies. G. Ramineedu (Telugu: గుత్తా రామినీడు) (5 October 1927 – 29 April 2009) was an Indian film director who worked in Telugu cinema. He is known for films such as '' Maa Inti Mahalakshmi'' (1959), ''Chivaraku Migiledi'' (1960), '' Palnati Yuddham'' (1966), '' Bangaru Sankellu'' (1968). ''Maa Inti Mahalakshmi'' and ''Palnati Yuddham'' received the Certificate of Merit for Best Feature Film in Telugu at the National Film Awards. ''Chivaraku Migiledi'' () is a 1960 Indian Telugu-language romance film, written and directed by Gutha Ramineedu. The film was a remake of the Bengali film ''Deep Jwele Jaai''. The Bengali film ''Deep Jwele Jaai'' was a huge critical and commercial success. Impressed by the story line, producer Vuppunuthula Purushotham Reddy and director G. Ramineedu remade the Bengali film into ''Chivaraku Migiledi'' (1960). Another remake in Hindi was made by Asit Sen, '' Khamoshi'', at the same time. Waheeda Rehman said in an interview that she could not meet the standards set by Suchitra Sen and Savitri for the character she played in ''Khamoshi''. Anjali Devi (; 24 August 1927 – 13 January 2014) was an Indian actress, model and producer in Telugu and Tamil films. She was well known for her role as the Devi Sita in ''Lava Kusa'' as well as for the titular roles in movies like Chenchu Lakshmi, '' Suvarna Sundari'' and '' Anarkali''. Bhatti Vikramarka () is a 1960 Indian Telugu-language swashbuckling adventure film, produced by P. V. V. Satyanarayana Murthy under the P.V.V.S.M. Productions banner and directed by Jampana. It stars N. T. Rama Rao, Anjali Devi, and Kanta Rao, with music composed by Pendyala Nageswara Rao. It is a commercial hit film that ran for 100 days. Pendyala Nageswara Rao (6 March 1917 – 31 August 1984), known mononymously by his surname Pendyala, was an Indian composer, multi-instrumentalist, conductor, music producer known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema along with Tamil and Kannada films.Nata Ratnalu, Mikkilineni Radhakrishna Murthy, Second edition, 2002; pp:582-4. Pandari Bai (1930 – 29 January 2003) was an Indian actress who worked in South Indian cinema, mostly in Kannada cinema during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. She is considered Kannada cinema's first successful heroine. She has acted as both heroine and mother to stalwarts such as Rajkumar, M. G. Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan.
