Central Asia
Central Asia, also known as Middle Asia, is a subregion, region of Asia that stretches from the Caspian Sea in the west to western China and Mongolia in the east, and from Afghanistan and Iran in the south to Russia in the north. It includes the former Soviet Union, Soviet republics of the Soviet Union, republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, which are colloquially referred to as the "-stans" as the countries all have names ending with the Persian language, Persian suffix "-stan", meaning "land of". The Turkmenistan Tower ( Turkmen: ''«Türkmenistan» teleradio merkezi'') is a communications and observation tower in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. It was completed in 2011. At , the tower is the tallest structure in Turkmenistan. History Construction began in 2008 by Turkish company Polimeks. It was completed on October 17, 2011, when President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow held the official opening ceremony. Function The main function of the tower is to serve TV and radiocommunication antennas, but apart from that there are also organized tourist centers with a variety of interesting attractions.
