Leo Glans
Leo Hendriques Hugo Glans (11 April 1911 in Paramaribo – 9 October 1980 in Wassenaar) was a Surinamese painter. He was the first Surinamese to study at the Rijksakademie. In 1927, Glans opened the ''Van Gogh'' studio. There was no proper education for art painting in Suriname and therefore he applied for a scholarship, and in 1929 leaves for Amsterdam. During 1929 and 1930, Glans spent his Saturdays in Natura Artis Magistra drawing animals. Between 1936 and 1938, Glans starts to explore many modernist movements like cubism and expressionism. Many still lifes are painted during that period as well. Sharon Doorson (born 24 April 1987, Netherlands) is a Dutch singer-songwriter, of Surinamese descent. She released her debut album in 2013, which reached the top 20 with 4 Top 40 singles released so far in Netherlands. She competed in ''The Voice of Holland (season 2), The Voice of Holland'' having all four judges turn for her in the Blind-Audition. She was eliminated in Week 6 (the semi-finals). Raffaëla Paton
Raffaëla Paton (born 1 June 1983) is a Dutch singer of Surinamese descent and the winner of the 2006 Dutch talent show ''Idols''. Paton participated in the Netherlands national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan with her entry ''Chocolatte'' but did not win. Biography Paton moved to Assen when she was a little girl. Her mother was a famous singer in Suriname. Paton's aunt is Ruth Jacott, also a famous Dutch singer who represented the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest of 1993. John Eduard Touwslager (December 21, 1968 – June 9, 2005), better known as Papa Touwtjie, was a Surinamese reggae artist and rapper. He is considered one of the most influential reggae artists in Suriname. Max Nijman
Max Reinier Nijman (March 18, 1941 – January 19, 2016) was a Surinamese singer. Born in Suriname, he moved to the Netherlands in 1968. His song "Adjosi" ("Adieu"), which sings of the homesickness of Surinamese expatriates, became his signature song, and he one of Suriname's icons. Biography Nijman was born in Moengo, as the eighth of sixteen children. Gifted with a natural talent, he started singing in English, with cover versions of American soul and R&B artists, and had a breakthrough performance at age 16, singing a Brook Benton song at a football game. He then moved on to singing in Sranan. In 1968, Nijman gave a well-attended farewell performance in Paramaribo (transmitted live on television) and moved to the Netherlands, where he signed to Dureco and released his debut solo-album ''Katibo'' in 1975. Jeangu Macrooy (; born November 6, 1993) is a Surinamese singer-songwriter. He was born in Paramaribo and has been living in the Netherlands in the eastern city Enschede in the region Twente since 2014. Macrooy's music is described as modern soul. His audience is in the Netherlands, Suriname, and increasingly in Belgium, France and Germany. Jacott transitioned from musical theatre to popular music in 1993, when she represented the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest 1993.
