Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka (, ; si, ශ්රී ලංකා, Śrī Laṅkā, translit-std=ISO (); ta, இலங்கை, Ilaṅkai, translit-std=ISO ()), formerly known as Ceylon and officially the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, is an island country in South Asia. Muhammad Lafir
Muhammad Junaid Muhammad Lafir (27 May 1930 - 26 April 1981) also known as either Mohammed Lafir or M J M Lafir was a Sri Lankan snooker player. He won the IBSF Amateur World Championship in 1973 and is regarded as the greatest snooker player of Sri Lanka. Biography Muhammad Lafir was born on 27 May 1930 in Grandpass, a suburb of Colombo, at St. Joseph's Street. He had two brothers and a sister in his family. He studied at Hameediah Boys English School (now known as Hameed Al Husseinie College). He died on 26 April 1981 at his own house. Career Lafir learnt the game of billiards and pursued his interest in the sport at the age of seven through his father S. L. M. Junaid. His father was a domestic snooker player who has played in friendly domestic tournaments and it inspired Lafir to take up the sport. Gayani Dissanayake
Gayani Dissanayake ( si, ගයානී දිසානායක) (born 20 April 1994) is a Sri Lankan netball player and a former captain of the Sri Lanka national netball team who plays in the position of goal defense or goal keeper in international netball tournaments. She is the second most capped player for Sri Lanka after veteran Tharjini Sivalingam. Career Gayani made her international debut in 2011 after emerging from youth level. She became the vice captain of the national team in 2014 during the 2014 Asian Netball Championships. She continued as the vice captain of the side for the 2015 Netball World Cup, which was also her first World Cup appearance. Kasturi Chellaraja Wilson
Kasturi Angela Chellaraja Wilson is a businesswoman and the first female Group CEO of a public quoted conglomerate in Sri Lanka. At present she is the Managing Director of Hemas Pharmaceuticals PVT LTD and Hemas Surgicals and Diagnostics PVT LTD; subsidiaries of Hemas Holdings PLC. On 25 June 2020, it was announced that she would take over as Group CEO of Hemas Holdings PLC from current Group CEO, Steven Enderby; effective 1 October 2020. Wasantha Soysa
Wasantha Soysa was a Karate champion and a Guinness record holder who has approximately twelve world records, including breaking twelve slabs of concrete in one blow with his head, and breaking 522 clay tiles. His nickname was the 'Rajarata Iron Man'. Soysa was born in Sri Lanka and later became the owner of a night club in Anuradhapura. On 24 October 2015, he was murdered at his own night club by an underworld gang. Early life Soysa was born in Anuradhapura as Alexander Wasantha Wikrama de Soysa. Anna-Marie Suzanne Quint Ondaatje also simply known as Anna-Marie Ondaatje (born 1 September 2000) is a Canadian born female rhythmic gymnast of Sri Lankan descent. She has competed in national level competitions in Canada and has represented both Canada and then switched to compete for Sri Lanka in international gymnastics events. She became the first rhythmic gymnast to represent Sri Lanka at the Commonwealth Games after creating history for the nation at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and was also named as one of just four female gymnasts from Sri Lanka to represent at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Nandasena Perera
K Nandasena Perera (29 August 1954 – 14 February 2019) was a Sri Lankan professional golfer. Early life Perera grew up in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Perera left school early to work for his family. He later got into golf while working as a caddy at the Royal Colombo Golf Club. At the age of 15, Perera broke his left arm at the elbow. Te elbow was set incorrectly, prohibiting the full extension of his left hand. Despite this he went on to be a professional golfer. Amateur career Perera won the Sri Lanka Amateur Championship several times. He also won the national amateur championship of Pakistan, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia.
