List Of Sporting CP Presidents
Ever since its founding in 1906, Sporting Clube de Portugal has had 43 different individuals as presidents serving a total of 51 terms. To elect a president, Sporting Clube de Portugal members (known as ''Sócios'') vote in an ''Assembleia Geral'', a club member's meeting, whenever a president's term comes to an end. The first president was the Viscount of Alvalade and the current one is Frederico Varandas, since 9 September 2018. The longest serving president was João Rocha whose presidency lasted for thirteen consecutive years from 1973 to 1986, while the shortest presidency was that of Valadão Chagas who stepped down on 30 March 1973, the day after he was elected, to accept Marcello Caetano's invitation to join his Government has the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports. Sporting Clube de Portugal, founded Sporting Club de Portugal (), otherwise referred to as Sporting CP, often known abroad as Sporting Lisbon , is a Portuguese professional sports club based in Lisbon. It is best known for the professional football team playing in the Primeira Liga, the top flight of Portuguese football. Founded on 1 July 1906, Sporting is one of the " Big Three" clubs in Portugal that have never been relegated from Primeira Liga, along with rivals Benfica and Porto. Filipe Pinto Basto Soares Franco (born 11 March 1953 in Lisbon) was the 46th president of Sporting CP, one of Portugal's biggest comprehensive sports clubs, second child and second son of Rui Guedes Soares Franco and Isabel Maria da Câmara Ferreira Pinto Basto (''Noblemen of Coat of Arms'' – and a descendant of Louis, comte de Narbonne-Lara, of the Duke of Loulé and of Infanta Ana de Jesus Maria of Portugal). José de Sousa Cintra, known professionally as Sousa Cintra, is a Portuguese businessman who served as president of sports club Sporting CP from 1989 to 1995. Biography He was born in 1944 in the village and parish of Raposeira, Vila do Bispo Municipality, in the Algarve region. As a child he worked as a snail trader in his village, and at 15 years old he went to Lisbon where he obtained a job at Hotel Tivoli Lisboa as an elevator operator.
