Commander Of The Ship
Commander of the Ship (russian: Командир корабля, Komandir korablya) is a 1954 Soviet drama film directed by Vladimir Braun. Plot The new graduate of the Naval Academy, captain of the third rank Vysotin becomes captain of the destroyer "Sovereign", obtaining it from his teacher captain Zolotov, who gets transferred to the headquarters. The command sets the task to bring the "Sovereign" into the number of advanced ships as soon as possible. Vysotin also bitterly learns that his beloved woman Tatiana has married Svetov, Captain of the Guard destroyer "Bold". Vysotin starts to work. He decides to focus on improving the combat capability of the ship and the involvement of the whole team. Political officer Paramonov helps him overcome the difficulties by resorting to unexpected measures. Leonid Davydovich Lukov (russian: Леонид Давидович Луков; 2 May 1909 – 24 April 1963) was a Soviet film director and screenwriter. He directed 25 films between 1930 and 1963. The 7th Cannes Film Festival was held from 25 March to 9 April 1954. With Jean Cocteau as President of the Jury, the Grand Prix went to the '' Gate of Hell'' by Teinosuke Kinugasa. The festival opened with '' Le Grand Jeu'' by Robert Siodmak. This was the last festival with a predominantly French jury. As the festival was becoming more and more a pole of showbiz attraction, scandals and romances of stars were appearing in the press. In 1954, the Simone Silva affair during the Cannes Festival ended up in the destruction of her career as an actor and her premature death, three years later. Sergei Yutkevich
Sergei Iosifovich Yutkevich (russian: Серге́й Ио́сифович Ютке́вич, 28 December 1904 – 23 April 1985) was a Soviet and Russian film director and screenwriter. He was a People's Artist of the USSR (1962) and a Hero of Socialist Labour (1974). Life and career He began work as a teen doing puppet shows. Between 1921 and 1923 he studied under Vsevolod Meyerhold. Later he helped found the ''Factory of the Eccentric Actor (FEKS)'', which was primarily concerned with circus and music hall acts. He entered films in the 1920s and began directing in 1928. His films often were cheerier than most Russian films as he was influenced by American slapstick, among other things. However he also did serious historical films, docudramas, and biopics. He won Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Director twice: for ''Othello'' in 1956 and for ''Lenin in Poland'' in 1966. ''The Great Warrior Skanderbeg'' ( al, Luftëtari i madh i Shqipërisë Skënderbeu; russian: Великий воин Албании Скандербег, Velikiy voin Albanii Skanderbeg) is a 1953 Soviet-Albanian biopic directed by Sergei Yutkevich. It was entered into the 1954 Cannes Film Festival where it earned the International Prize. Yutkevich also earned the Special Mention award for his direction. The film is a biography of George Kastriot Skanderbeg (1405–1468), widely known as Skanderbeg, a 15th-century Albanian lord who defended his land against the Ottoman Empire for more than two decades. In 2012, for the 100th anniversary of Albanian independence, the film was remastered for high definition with new voices, music, and sound effects. Plot Several Pomor fishermen were attacked by sea pirates and were forced to spend more than one year on a desert island. Many considered them dead but almost all of them managed to survive. Arkady Isaakovich Raikin (russian: Аркадий Исаакович Райкин; – 17 December 1987) was a Soviet stand-up comedian, theater and film actor, and stage director. He led the school of Soviet and Russian humorists for about half a century. Biography Raikin was born into a Jewish family in Riga, in the Governorate of Livonia of the Russian Empire (present-day Latvia). He graduated from the Leningrad Theatrical Technicum in 1935 and worked in both state theatres and variety shows. In 1939, he founded his own theatre in Leningrad, where he used skits and impersonations to ridicule the inefficiency of Communist bureaucracy and the Soviet way of life. He also appeared in several comedies during and after the Great Patriotic War.
