The following is a list of songs written or performed by anti folk artist Regina Spektor. Spektor as lead artist and songwriter (115) In ''Soviet Kitsch (album), Soviet Kitsch'', there is a brief spoken word piece titled “Whisper”, in which Spektor and her brother, Barry (Bear) Spektor, discuss the following song on the album ("Your Honor"). Two tracks from ''Songs (Regina Spektor album), Songs'' were later re-recorded and re-released by Spektor. The first, "Samson", also appeared in ''Begin to Hope''. The second, "Ne Me Quitte Pas", was featured in ''What We Saw from the Cheap Seats'', retitled as "Don't Leave Me (Ne Me Quitte Pas)". Unlike the 2002 version, which featured only Spektor and the piano, the 2012 one also includes a drum machine, horns and brass instruments. Anti-folk (sometimes referred to as unfolk) is a music genre that emerged in the 1980s in response to the remnants of the 1960s folk music scene. Anti-folk music was made to mock the perceived seriousness of the time's mainstream music scene, and artists have the intention to protest with their mocking and clever lyrics. What We Saw From The Cheap Seats
''What We Saw from the Cheap Seats'' is the sixth studio album by American alternative singer-songwriter Regina Spektor. On November 21, 2011, Spektor posted on her Facebook page that the album had been recorded with Mike Elizondo in Los Angeles during the summer of 2011. It was released on May 29, 2012. The album is a collection of new material alongside the first studio recordings of several songs Spektor had previously only performed live. By the time of the album's release, "Jessica" was the only song that was entirely new to fans: an earlier recording of "Don't Leave Me (Ne Me Quitte Pas)" had been included on Spektor's album ''Songs'', and the rest of the songs had already been performed live, with "How" and "The Party" making their debut just weeks earlier. Hidden Vagenda
''Hidden Vagenda'' is the fourth solo album by American singer-songwriter Kimya Dawson, and the first to be released by K Records. The album contains songs about her pain from the deaths of loved ones, the then-upcoming 2004 election, and a power ballad version of a song from a previous solo album featuring a recording of members of The Moldy Peaches as an intro. ''Hidden Vagenda'' also includes myriad guest performers, including Daniel Johnston, Paleface, Vanessa Carlton, and members of the French anti-folk group Herman Düne. The tracks "It's Been Raining" and "Blue Like Nevermind" were recorded in France with members of Herman Düne backing Kimya, and others were recorded in the Dawson family kitchen and Olive Juice Music in New York City. Kimya Dawson
Kimya Dawson (born November 17, 1972) is an American folk singer-songwriter, one half of the anti-folk duo the Moldy Peaches. Dawson's work with the Moldy Peaches earned them a cult following and critical acclaim, with their 2001 song " Anyone Else But You" landing a spot in multiple acclaimed indie film soundtracks. "Anyone Else But You" as performed by Michael Cera and Elliot Page charted on the Billboard Hot 100 after its prominent inclusion in the 2007 film ''Juno'', the soundtrack of which includes several songs by Dawson and her associated musical acts. The song remains Dawson's highest charting single to date. "Don't Leave Me (Ne Me Quitte Pas)" is a song by Regina Spektor, from her 2012 album ''What We Saw from the Cheap Seats''. It was released as the album's second single on March 26, 2012. Although a handful of critics assumed this was an English-language cover version of Jacques Brel's song "Ne me quitte pas", Spektor's song is different in every way except the title. The chord structure, melody, and lyrics are all completely different. Brel's song was written in the key of A minor, in 3/4 time. It is a slow, haunting story of a man trying to win back his former lover—a song about the cowardice of men according to Brel. In contrast, Spektor's song is lively, in 4/4 time, and in a major key.
