Lefkada (regional Unit)
Lefkada ( el, Περιφερειακή ενότητα Λευκάδας) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the modern regions of Greece, region of Ionian Islands (region), Ionian Islands. The capital of the regional unit is the town of Lefkada (city), Lefkada. The regional unit consists of the islands of Lefkada, Meganisi, Kalamos (island), Kalamos, Kastos and several smaller islands, all in the Ionian Sea. Administration The regional unit Lefkada is subdivided into 2 municipalities. These are (number as in the map in the infobox): *Lefkada (1) *Meganisi (2) Prefecture As a part of the 2011 Kallikratis government reform, the regional unit Lefkada was created out of the former prefectures of Greece, prefecture Lefkada ( el, Νομός Λευκάδας). Marantochori is a small, quiet village in the southern part of the island of Lefkada, Greece. Almost all of the village is made up of farmers. It is one of the few places in Lefkada that does not have a view of the sea from any point. Lefkada City ( el, Πόλη της Λευκάδας, ''Póli tis Lefkádas'') is a city and a former municipality on the island of Lefkada, Ionian Islands, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Lefkada, of which it is a municipal unit. Kastos
Kastos ( el, Καστός) is a Greek island and a former community east of the island of Lefkada, Ionian Islands, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Lefkada, of which it is a municipal unit. Until 1974, when it became part of the Lefkada Prefecture, the island was administered under the Cephalonia Prefecture (Ithaca province). The nearest island is Kalamos, with a deep channel between them; the mainland is approximately to the northeast in Aetolia-Acarnania. Geography The island has only one village, the homonymous Kastos, located on its east coast. It has a population of about 80, involved mainly in tourism services, as well as fishing. During the summer Kastioti of the diaspora return for holidays and together with the fluctuating visitors arriving on yachts, form its seasonal character.
