The Armed Forces Division (AFD) ( bn, বাংলাদেশ সশস্ত্র বাহিনী বিভাগ — ) is the principal national command authority for national defense of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. SM Shamim Uz Zaman SBP, BSP, ndc, psc is a retired Bangladesh Army Major General. He served as Bangladeshi Ambassador to Libya. Prior to join here, he served as Military Secretary to the President of Bangladesh. Early life Zaman was born on 2 January 1965 in Khulna, Bangladesh. After completion his HSC he joined army at 1983. Major general (abbreviated MG, maj. gen. and similar) is a military rank used in many countries. It is derived from the older rank of sergeant major general. The disappearance of the "sergeant" in the title explains the apparent confusion of a lieutenant general outranking a major general, whereas a major outranks a lieutenant.
