Portsmouth
Portsmouth ( ) is a port and city in the ceremonial county of Hampshire in southern England. The city of Portsmouth has been a unitary authority since 1 April 1997 and is administered by Portsmouth City Council. Portsmouth is the most densely populated city in the United Kingdom, with a population last recorded at 208,100. Portsmouth is located south-west of London and south-east of Southampton. Portsmouth is mostly located on Portsea Island; the only English city not on the mainland of Great Britain. Farlington, Hampshire
Farlington is a primarily residential district of the city of Portsmouth in the county of Hampshire, England. It is located in the extreme north east of the city on the mainland and is not on Portsea Island unlike most of the other areas of Portsmouth. Farlington was incorporated into the city in 1932 and now forms a continuous development with Cosham and Drayton. To the north of Farlington is the suburb of Widley and to the east is the town of Havant. To the west is the suburb of Drayton, and to the south is Langstone Harbour. History Farlington was a small rural community for the majority of its existence, being part of an ancient manor and parish that also included nearby Crookhorn and Stakes (Frendstaple), places still outside the City boundary. Trafalgar School (formerly City of Portsmouth Boys' School) is a coeducational secondary school located in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. The school is on London Road in the Portsmouth northern sub district of Hilsea. The current comprehensive school, established in 1975, was the product of an amalgamation of four separate secondary schools in the west of the City of Portsmouth. Formerly a boys' school, the school became coeducational in September 2015. History The school has existed in various forms since 1905. The original main campus building consisted of a red brick three-floor complex surrounding an inner grass quadrangle or 'quad'. Drayton, Portsmouth
Drayton is a residential area of the city of Portsmouth in the English county of Hampshire. Together with Farlington, its parent area, it makes up one of the electoral wards of the city. History The earliest mention of Drayton was as a manor of Farlington parish. It appears in a document of the year 1250, when Henry III gave a moiety (legally fixed half share) of the land there to Roger de Merlay. ''Dreton'' appears as its form in the 14th century. Unlike the majority of the city, Drayton lies on the mainland rather than Portsea Island. The manor may be included under the Domesday Book of 1086's entry of Cosham; both were within decades confirmed as in Farlington parish. Priory School, Portsmouth
Priory School is a secondary school in Southsea, Hampshire, England. It is situated in the northern area of Southsea bordering Fratton, and lies close to Fratton railway station on the A2047. Stewart Vaughan is the Headteacher at the school. Priory school is an academy and part of the Bohunt Education Trust. History The current site was originally purchased by the Portsmouth School Board in May 1890 for £3000, at the time the area was known as "The Wilderness" due to the lack of development activity. On the site were several buildings in a heavy state of disrepair, among the buildings were ''Howard's Cottage'' reputedly the oldest building in Portsmouth and home to the ghost of Lady Temple. The construction of the school cost £9,704 and took two years, the buildings were completed in May 1892. The Portsmouth Academy (formerly the Portsmouth Academy for Girls and before that City of Portsmouth Girls' School) is a secondary school with academy status, located in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England on St Mary's Road in the central district of Fratton near St Mary's Church. Originally established as a girls' school, it became co-educational in the 2017/18 school year. History 1890–1975 The original school building was St Mary's School build circa 1890. It first became a school for girls in 1930 as the Junior Girls Department of the nearby Penhale Road Board School. The building became one of the early casualties of bombing in Portsmouth during World War II and was subsequently demolished. With post-war reorganisation resulting from the Education Act 1944, the Kingston Modern School for Girls was created in 1949.
