'' Saving Hope'' is a Canadian television supernatural medical drama that debuted on the CTV and NBC networks simultaneously on June 7, 2012. The show's central character is Dr. Alex Reid ( Erica Durance), a doctor whose fiancé, Dr. Charles Harris ( Michael Shanks), is in a coma A coma is a deep state of prolonged unconsciousness in which a person cannot be awakened, fails to respond normally to painful stimuli, light, or sound, lacks a normal wake-sleep cycle and does not initiate voluntary actions. Dr. Reid is the Chief Surgical Resident at Hope Zion Hospital in Toronto, and Dr. Harris would normally be the Chief of Surgery at Hope Zion, but had been replaced due to his current condition.
