This is a list of accidents and disasters by death toll. It shows the number of fatalities associated with various explosions, structural fires, flood disasters, coal mine disasters, and other notable accidents caused by the effects of negligence of the human race connected to improper architecture, planning, construction, design, and more. Purposeful disasters, such as terrorist attacks, are omitted; those events can be found at List of battles and other violent events by death toll. While all of the listed accidents caused immediately massive numbers of lives lost, further widespread deaths were connected to many of these incidents, often the result of prolonged or lingering effects of the initial catastrophe. This was the case particularly in such cases as exposure to contaminated air, toxic chemicals or radiation, some years later due to lung damage, cancer, etc. Some numbers in the table below reflect both immediate and delayed deaths related to accidents, while many d ...

List Of Professional Cyclists Who Died During A Race
The first documented deaths of competitive cyclists during competition or training date to the 1890s and early 1900s when the recently-invented safety bicycle made cycling more popular, both as a sport and as a mode of transport. The athletes listed here were either professional cyclists, professional pacemakers, retired champion cyclists, or well-known competitive amateurs who had a cycling-related death, mostly during a race or during training. Pacemakers are motorcyclists utilized in motor-paced racing, riding motorcycles in front of their cycling teammates to provide additional speed to those cyclists via the resulting slipstream. Safety has been a concern since cycling's early days. By 1929, at least 47 people had died while racing at velodromes – 33 cyclists and 14 pacemakers. Motor-paced cycling still exists in the modern era as keirin racing and derny racing. A number of professionals and competitive amateurs have been killed in crashes with motorized vehicles whil ...

List Of Racing Drivers Who Died In Racing Crashes
Many people, including drivers, crew members, officials and spectators, have been killed in crashes related to the sport of auto racing, in races, in qualifying, in practice or in private testing sessions. Deaths among racers and spectators were numerous in the early years of racing, but advances in safety technology, and specifications designed by sanctioning bodies to limit speeds, have reduced the rate of fatal accidents. Major accidents have often spurred increased safety measures and rules changes. Widely considered to be the worst accident is the 1955 Le Mans disaster at 24 Hours of Le Mans that killed driver Pierre Levegh and approximately 80 spectators with over 100 being injured in total. This is a list alphabetically sorted, and structured after the kind of competition, of the more notable driver deaths, excluding those of motorcycle riders. In addition, several racing drivers have been killed in public road crashes; see List of people who died in road accidents. __TOC ...
