This is a list of the municipalities of Portugal. Portugal is divided into 18 districts ( pt, distritos) and 2 autonomous regions (), Azores and Madeira. The districts and autonomous regions are further subdivided into 308 municipalities of Portugal ( or ). Usually, a municipality is named after its largest or historically most important town or city. Cávado (intermunicipal Community)
The Comunidade Intermunicipal do Cávado () is an administrative division in northern Portugal. It was created in 2008. It is also a NUTS3 subregion of the Norte Region. The seat of the intermunicipal community is Braga, Norte. Cávado comprises part of the former Braga District. The population in 2011 was 410,169, in an area of , which makes it one of the most densely populated subregions of Portugal. Currently, as of 2021, it has 416.679 inhabitants and a population density of 351 per square kilometres. Its name is derived from the Cávado River that drains a large part of its territory. Oeste (intermunicipal Community)
Comunidade Intermunicipal do Oeste ( or ; in English: Intermunicipal Community of the West; abbreviated OesteCIM) is an administrative division of Portugal, located on the country's western central coast. The population in 2011 was 362,540, in an area of . Caldas da Rainha serves as the seat of OesteCIM. The law establishing the framework for intermunicipal communities and metropolitan areas was approved by the Assembly of the Republic (Assembleia da República) on 27 August 2008. On 25 November 2008, the Associação de Municípios do Oeste (Association of Municipalities of the West), by the approval of the municipal assemblies ('' assembleias municipais'') of each of its constituent municipalities, converted itself into the Comunidade Intermunicipal do Oeste. The District of Santarém ( pt, Distrito de Santarém ) is a district of Portugal, located in Portugal's ''Centro Region''. The district capital is the city of Santarém. The Comunidade Intermunicipal do Médio Tejo (; English: ''Middle Tagus'') is an administrative division in Portugal. It was created in December 2008, replacing the former ''Comunidade Urbana do Médio Tejo'' created in 2004. It takes its name from the river Tagus.
