This is a list of Rangers Football Club's managers and all those who have held the position of manager of the first team of Rangers, since its formation in 1872. Each manager's entry includes his dates of tenure and the club's overall competitive record (in terms of first team matches won, drawn and lost), honours won and significant achievements while under his care. Caretaker or interim managers are included, where known, as well as those who have been in permanent charge. Rangers have had nineteen different permanent managers and ten interim managers. Pedro Caixinha
Pedro Miguel Faria Caixinha (; born 15 November 1970) is a Portuguese professional football manager, currently in charge of Campeonato Brasileiro Série A club Red Bull Bragantino. He started coaching in his late twenties, acting an assistant with Sporting CP, Al-Hilal, Panathinaikos, Rapid București and the Saudi Arabia national team. European Cup Winners' Cup
The UEFA Cup Winners' Cup was a European football club competition contested annually by the winners of domestic cup competitions. The cup was, chronologically, the second seasonal inter-European club competition organised by UEFA. The tournament ran for 39 seasons, with the final edition held in 1998–99, after which it was discontinued. The first tournament was held in 1960–61, but it was organised by the Mitropa Cup's Organising Committee and not recognised by the governing body of European football until 1963, when it was accepted as a UEFA competition on the initiative of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). From 1972 onwards, the winner of the tournament progressed to play the winner of the European Cup (later the UEFA Champions League) in the European Super Cup. James Gossland
James Gossland (born 6 September 1860 in Glasgow) was a Scottish footballer who played for Dennistoun, Alexandra Athletic, Rangers and the Scotland national team. After spells at Dennistoun and Alexandra Athletic, the latter for whom he also served as general secretary, he joined Rangers in 1882. Peter McNeil (footballer)
Peter McNeil (1854 – 30 March 1901) was a Scottish footballer and along with brother Moses, one of the founding members of Rangers Football Club. He made seven Scottish Cup appearances for the club. Life He was born at Belmore House in Rhu in Dunbartonshire, the son of John McNeil and his wife, Jane Loudon Bain. His father was the gardener at Belmore House. Around 1870 the family moved to 17 Cleveland Street in Anderston. Peter McNeil was apprenticed as a clerk in Anderston around 1871. He played in Rangers first ever match in May 1872 against another Glasgow team, Callander F.C. on Fleshers Haugh, Glasgow Green. After finishing playing football, he continued as match secretary and was hugely influential in the fledgling years of the Club. McNeil died in 1901 at the Hawkhead Asylum near Paisley aged 47. William Wilton
William Wilton (9 June 1865 – 2 May 1920) was a Scottish football player, administrator and manager. He was the first manager of Rangers Football Club, serving in that position from 1899 until his death in 1920, and leading Rangers to nine major trophies. He had previously served as Rangers' match secretary to the reserve and first teams. Early life William Wilton was born at Blyth's Land on Nelson Street in Largs, Ayrshire on 9 June 1865, the son of James Wilton, a stonemason from the Isle of Arran, and Janet Smith, a weaver from Paisley. Wilton grew up in Largs and the Kingston area of Glasgow, and worked in Glasgow as a mercantile clerk with a sugar broker and then a sugar refining machinery manufacturer. Michael Beale (football Coach)
Michael Beale (born 4 September 1980) is an English football coach who currently manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers. Beale was assistant manager to Steven Gerrard at Rangers and Aston Villa. He has also coached at Chelsea, Liverpool and São Paulo. Playing career Beale's playing career started at Charlton Athletic and, after being released by Charlton, he had short trials at FC Twente in the Netherlands, and at clubs in the United States, before calling an end to his playing days at the age of 21. Giovanni Van Bronckhorst
Giovanni Christiaan van Bronckhorst (born 5 February 1975) is a Dutch football manager and former player, who was most recently the manager of Scottish Premiership club Rangers. Formerly a midfielder, he moved to left-back later in his career. During his club career, Van Bronckhorst played for RKC Waalwijk, Feyenoord, Rangers, Arsenal, Barcelona and again with Feyenoord. He was an instrumental player in Barcelona's 2005–06 UEFA Champions League victory, being in the starting line-up of the final, having played every Champions League match for Barcelona that season. Jock Wallace, Jr
John Martin Bokas Wallace (6 September 1935 – 24 July 1996) was a Scottish professional footballer and manager. Wallace played as a goalkeeper, and has the unique distinction of being the only player ever to play in the English, Welsh and Scottish Cups in the same season; this was set during the 1966–67 season where he played in the FA Cup and Welsh Cup for Hereford United, and in the Scottish Cup when he moved to Berwick Rangers. As manager of Rangers over two spells in the 1970s and 1980s, Wallace became one of Scottish football's best-known and most successful coaches. A sports coach is a person coaching in sport, involved in the direction, instruction and training of a sports team or athlete. History The original sense of the word ''coach'' is that of a horse-drawn carriage, deriving ultimately from the Hungarian city of Kocs where such vehicles were first made. David White (Scottish Footballer)
David White (23 August 1933 – 17 July 2013) was a Scottish football player and manager. He played as a wing half for Clyde for his whole career, before managing Clyde, Rangers and Dundee. Playing career White was 23 years of age when he joined Clyde from the Junior side Royal Albert. While also working as an engineer, he played more than 300 games for the Bully Wee and became club captain and acted as player-coach. Managerial career He was promoted to Clyde manager after the Scottish Football Association appointed his predecessor John Prentice as the Scotland national team manager.
