This is a list of electricity-generating power stations in the U.S. state of Arizona, sorted by type and name. In 2021, Arizona had a net summer capacity of 27,596 MW through all of its power plants, and a net generation of 109,305 GWh. The corresponding electrical energy generation mix in 2022 was 41.6% natural gas, 29.4% nuclear, 12.4% coal, 5.1% hydroelectric, 9.9% solar, 1.5% wind, and 0.2% biomass. Small-scale solar, including customer-owned photovoltaic panels, delivered an additional net 3,638 GWh to the state's electrical grid. This compares as about one-half the amount generated by Arizona's utility-scale solar plants. A Simple-Cycle Combustion Turbine (SCCT) is a type of gas turbine most frequently used in the power generation, aviation (jet engine), and oil and gas industry (electricity generation and mechanical drives). The simple-cycle combustion turbine follows the Brayton Cycle and differs from a combined cycle operation in that it has only one power cycle (i.e. no provision for waste heat recovery). Horse Mesa Dam
The Horse Mesa Dam is a concrete thin arch dam located in the Superstition Mountains, northeast of Phoenix in Maricopa County, Arizona. The dam is long, high and was built between 1924–27. The dam includes three conventional hydroelectric generating units totaling 32 megawatts (MW) and a pumped-storage unit with a capacity of 97 MW. The dam and associated infrastructure were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017. A few homes are nearby for temporary employee housing. Its name is derived from when sheep-herders used to graze their saddle and pack animals on the mesa when they were driving their flocks through the area. Hoover Dam
Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona. It was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression and was dedicated on September 30, 1935, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Davis Dam is a dam on the Colorado River about downstream from Hoover Dam. It stretches across the border between Arizona and Nevada. Coolidge Dam
The Coolidge Dam is a reinforced concrete multiple dome and buttress dam southeast of Globe, Arizona on the Gila River. Built between 1924 and 1928, the Coolidge Dam was part of the San Carlos Irrigation Project. Arizona Falls is a waterfall in Phoenix, Arizona, U.S. It was formed when the man-made Arizona Canal crossed a natural, drop in the area of present-day 56th Street in the Arcadia neighborhood of Phoenix.
