The Portuguese film industry produced over thirty feature films in 2014. This article fully lists all non-pornographic films, including short films, that had a release date in that year and which were at least partly made by Portugal. It does not include films first released in previous years that had release dates in 2014. Also included is an overview of the major events in Portuguese film, including film festivals and awards ceremonies, as well as lists of those films that have been particularly well received, both critically and financially. Flag Of Portugal
The national flag of Portugal ( pt, Bandeira de Portugal) is a rectangular bicolour with a field divided into green on the hoist, and red on the fly. The lesser version of the national coat of arms of Portugal ( armillary sphere and Portuguese shield) is centered over the colour boundary at equal distance from the upper and lower edges. Its presentation was done on 1 December 1910, after the downfall of the constitutional monarchy on 5 October 1910. However, it was only on 30 June 1911, that the official decree approving this flag as the official flag was published. This new national flag of the First Portuguese Republic, was selected by a special commission whose members included Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro, João Chagas and Abel Botelho. Aida Begić
Aida Begić (born 9 May 1976) is a Bosnian film director and screenwriter. Education and career She graduated in Film and Theater Directing from the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo in 2000. Her graduation film "The First Death Experience" has been screened at more than twenty international film festivals. This film participated in the 54th Cannes Film Festival – Official Cinefondation Selection and later received five awards: Best Short Film – 6th Ourense Film Festival, Spain, 2002; Critics' Award – 30th Huesca Film Festival, Spain, 2002; Methexis Award – MedFilm Festival, Italy, 2002; Special Jury Mention – 9th Archipelago New Media Film Festival and Short Film, Italy, 2001. Horse Money
''Horse Money'' (Portuguese: ''Cavalo Dinheiro'') is a 2014 Portuguese film directed by Pedro Costa. It premiered in August 2014 at the Locarno International Film Festival, where it won the award for Best Direction. Horse Money is the fourth film in a sequence of films set in the Fontainhas slum region in Lisbon, and the second with character Venturas as the protagonist. Plot Ventura, an elderly Cape Verdean immigrant living in Lisbon travels through the night, through real and imagined nightmarish memories. Release ''Horse Money'' was in competition for the Golden Leopard at the 2014 Locarno International Film Festival. Critical response The film received critical acclaim. Angela Schanelec (; born 14 February 1962) is a German actress, film director and screenwriter. Her film '' Places in Cities'' was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival. At the 69th Berlin International Film Festival, Schanelec won the Silver Bear for Best Director for her film ''I Was at Home, But''. Cristi Puiu (; born 3 April 1967) is a Romanian film director and screenwriter. With Anca Puiu and Alex Munteanu, in 2004 he founded a cinema production company, naming it Mandragora. Early life, education and career Cristian Emilian Puiu was born to Iuliana and Emilian Puiu in Bucharest, Romania. Puiu's first interest in art was painting. In 1992, he was admitted as a student to the Painting Department of ''École Supérieure d'Arts Visuels'' in Geneva. After the first year he switched to film studies at the same school, where he graduated in 1996. He started working in film after his return to Romania. He is married to Anca Puiu.
