United Cook Islanders
The United Cook Islanders was a political party in the Cook Islands. It was established on 16 February 1968 in order to challenge the then-dominant Cook Islands Party and provide a more organised opposition. The party was organised by David Hosking and Taira Rere. Prominent members included former CIP cabinet ministers Manea Tamarua and Mana Strickland. The party did not initially have a formal leader, though Hosking served as "campaign leader" At the 1968 election, the party ran on a platform of economic development, increased pensions, and good governance. It promised to end the autocratic style of government practiced by the CIP's Albert Henry, end family and party appointments to the public service, and ensure public service neutrality. Tumu Enua
The Tumu Enua was a political party located in the Cook Islands. It was led by Norman George, a former member of the Democratic Party who had previously founded the breakaway New Alliance Party. The New Alliance Party was eventually responsible for reuniting with the Democrats, but George himself contested the 2004 elections under the Tumu Enua banner. Party Tumu
The Party Tumu was a political party in the Cook Islands. It was founded in July 2010 by Cook Islands Party MP Albert (Peto) Nicholas after a split over candidate selection. Originally known as the "Cook Islands Party Tumu" ("real" or "true" Cook Islands Party), the party was forced to rename itself after the CIP successfully sought a court injunction preventing them from using the name Cook Islands Party. The breakaway party attracted the support of influential CIP backer Tupui Ariki Henry, son of CIP founder and former Prime Minister Albert Henry, but it has not attracted the support of any other CIP MPs. The party's aims were the same as those of the CIP: nationalism and economic development. The New Alliance Party was a political party in the Cook Islands. The party was led by Norman George, and was a continuation of his Alliance Party. The Alliance had merged with the Democratic Party to form the Democratic Alliance after the 1994 elections, but a struggle over the leadership between George and Terepai Maoate saw George split off again in 1997, accompanied by Jim Marurai.
