''Cyclopia'', the honeybush, or heuningbos in Afrikaans, is a genus of some 20 species of flowering plants in the legume family Fabaceae, subfamily Faboideae. Its description was published by the French botanist Étienne Pierre Ventenat in 1808. The name ''Ibbetsonia'', published two years later, is regarded as a synonym of this genus; John Sims had commemorated the physiologist Agnes Ibbetson with this name. Cultivation and use The leaves of honeybush are commonly used to make herbal teas. It grows only in small areas in the southwest and southeast of South Africa and has many similarities with rooibos. Honeybush and rooibos are considered types of red tea. Honeybush is so named because the flowers smell of honey. The taste of honeybush tea is similar to that of rooibos but a little sweeter. ''Hakea lissocarpha'', commonly known as honey bush or the duck and drake bush, is a shrub of the genus '' Hakea'' native to a large area in the Mid West, Wheatbelt, Peel, South West, Great Southern and Goldfields-Esperance regions of Western Australia. Description The pungent lignotuberous, dense, spreading shrub typically grows to a height of with smooth to roughish grey bark. It blooms from May to September and produces vert sweetly scented white-cream/yellow/pink flowers in racemes in the leaf axils and upper branchlets. ''Melianthus major'', the giant honey flower or ''kruidjie-roer-my-nie'' (Afrikaans for 'herb-touch-me-not'), is a species of flowering plant in the family Francoaceae. It is an evergreen suckering shrub, endemic to South Africa and naturalised in India, Australia and New Zealand. It grows to tall by wide, with pinnate blue-green leaves long, which have a distinctive musky odour. Dark red, nectar-laden flower spikes, in length, appear in spring, followed by green pods. All parts of the plants are poisonous. The Latin binomial ''Melianthus major'' literally means "large honey flower".
