Brahmanbaria District
Brahmanbaria ( bn, ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া, translit=Brahmôṇbaṛiya) is a district in eastern Bangladesh located in the Chittagong Division. Geographically, it is mostly farmland and is topographically part of the Gangetic Plain. It is bounded by the districts of Kishoreganj and Habiganj to the north, Narsingdi District and Narayanganj to the west, Comilla to the south, and the Indian state of Tripura to its east. Isa Khan
Isa Khan (c. 1529 – September 1599) was a Muslim Rajput zamindar who was one of the Baro Bhuiyans (twelve landlords) and a Zamindar of Khizirpur in 16th-century Bengal. Throughout his reign he resisted the Mughal empire invasion. It was only after his death that the region fell totally under Mughal control. Early life and background Bhagirath, grandfather of Isa Khan, belonged to the Rajput community of the Bais clan. He came to Bengal from Ayodhya and took the job of Dewan under the Sultan of Bengal Ghiyasuddin Mahmud Shah (reigned 1533–1538). His son Kalidas Gazdani inherited the post after his death. Later, under the guidance of the Sufi saint Danishmand, Gazdani converted to Islam and took new name Sulaiman Khan. Sulaiman married the Sultan's daughter Syeda Momena Khatun and received the Zamindari of Sarail (present-day Sarail Upazila, Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh) in the Bhati region. Salahuddin Ahmed (governor)
Salahuddin Ahmed is a Bangladeshi economist, civil servant, and a former governor of the Bangladesh Bank, the country's central bank. He is a professor of BRAC University. Early life and education Ahmed was born in Old Dhaka and his family were originally from Nabinagar Upazila, Brahmanbaria District. He graduated from Dhaka Collegiate School in 1963. Ahmed did his masters in 1969 in economics from the University of Dhaka. He completed his second masters and PhD from McMaster University in 1974 and 1978 respectively. Career Ahmed joined the University of Dhaka as a lecturer and later joined the Civil Service of Pakistan. He was appointed the Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka District. He served as the executive magistrate of Pirojpur District. He worked at the National Foundation for Research on Human Resource Development which merged with Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies later. Narendra Chandra Dutta
Narendra Chandra Dutta ( bn, নরেন্দ্রচন্দ্র দত্ত; 25 November 1878 – 15 April 1962) was an Indian banker, founder of Comilla Banking Corporation and later the prime mover behind the incorporation of the United Bank of India. Early life Dutta was born to Mahesh Chandra Dutta in Kalikachchha, in the district of Tipperah. His father died when he was only nine months old. His mother struggled to bring him up and then had a live a life of penury. He graduated in law from the Ripon College in Calcutta in 1905. He began his practice in the civil court at Comilla and soon build up a lucrative practice. Career In 1914, Dutta founded the Comilla Banking Corporation at the suggestion of community leader Akhil Chandra Dutta with support from Mahesh Chandra Bhattacharya (1848–1944). He started the bank with a declared capital of 4,000 rupees and raised another 2,500 rupees. In order to raise the capital he sold his own house for 1,500 rupees. ...
