The sport of sailing involves a variety of competitive sailing formats that are sanctioned through various sailing federations and yacht clubs. Racing disciplines include matches within a fleet of sailing craft, between a pair thereof or among teams. Additionally, there are specialized competitions that include setting speed records. Racing formats include both closed courses and point-to-point contests; they may be in sheltered waters, coast-wise or on the open ocean. Most competitions are held within defined classes or ratings that either entail one type of sailing craft to ensure a contest primarily of skill or rating the sailing craft to create classifications or handicaps. Rasmus Myrgren
Paul Rasmus Myrgren (born 25 November 1978) is a Swedish sailor competing for GKSS. He competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics and in the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Laser class. Rasmus Myrgren is the only laser sailor in history who has entered the medal race at the Olympic Games, in a medal position, in two consecutive Olympic Games (Medal races was first used in 2008). In 2008, he came into the medal race in silver position and the only one who could take the Gold from Paul Goodison. In the medal race a helicopter filming Rasmus Myrgren and Paul Goodison altered the wind so both competitors started 1 minute after the rest of the fleet consequently finishing last and second to last in the medal race. Sailing/Yachting is an Olympic sport starting from the 1896 Olympics in Athens, Greece). With the exception of 1904 and possibly the canceled 1916 Summer Olympics, sailing has always been included on the Olympic schedule. Bruce Kendall
Anthony Bruce Kendall (born 27 June 1964) is a two-time Olympic medallist in sailing for New Zealand. He has served as an elected member of the Howick Local Board since 2019. Yachting Kendall's family are yachtsmen. He began sailing in the P-class and Starlings before progressing to crewing 470 and keelboats. When he was 14 he turned to windsurfing. Olympics Competing in boardsailing, Kendall's first medal was a bronze at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. At the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, he improved to win the gold medal. Kendall also competed at the following Olympics in Barcelona, just failing to win another medal due to faulty equipment. Randall Scott Steele (born February 26, 1958) is an American competitive sailor, World Champion (Windsurfer) and Olympic Silver Medalist (Yachting/Sailing/Windglider) Career At the 1984 Summer Olympics, Steele finished in 2nd place in the men's Windglider sailing/windsurfing competition. Prior to that, he was honored as a two-time All American Intercollegiate sailor while at St. Mary's College of Maryland. Stephan van den Berg (born 20 February 1962) is a retired windsurfer from the Netherlands. He was world champion in 1983 and in the 1984 Summer Olympics, Long beach, California won the first Olympic Gold medal in the Windglider for the Netherlands. Matthew "Matt" Wearn (born 30 September 1995) is an Australian competitive sailor, Olympic champion and multiple times medalist at world championships. Wearn has been sailing since he was five years old. He chose the sport over a possible career in Australian Rules football. Sailing competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo took place from 25 July to 4 August 2021 at the Enoshima Yacht Harbor in Enoshima. Sam Meech (born 4 April 1991) is a New Zealand sailor who won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Early life Meech was born in Portsmouth, England, in 1991. The sailor Molly Meech is his younger sister; almost exactly two years his junior.
