Rugby Sevens At The 2016 Summer Olympics
Rugby sevens at the 2016 Summer Olympics was held over six days in August 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. The 2016 Olympics was the debut for rugby sevens at the Summer Olympics, though rugby union was last played at the 1924 games. The usual laws of rugby sevens applied. Changes Though rugby has not been featured in the Olympics since the 1924 Summer Olympics in any form, the IOC chose to re-introduce the seven-a-side version of the sport for the games. The sport will feature for this olympics and the 2020 Summer Olympics. Venue The rugby competition took place in a temporary arena at Deodoro Stadium. Sam Cross (born 26 August 1992) is a Welsh rugby union player who plays for Wales and club rugby for the Ospreys (rugby union), Ospreys as a Flanker (rugby union), flanker. Cross is an experienced rugby sevens player and has turned out for the Wales national rugby sevens team, Wales Sevens team in over a hundred matches, as well as captaining the side at 24 years old. Juan Leon de Jongh (born 15 April 1988) is a South African rugby union footballer. He was one of the stars of Vodacom WP's ABSA Currie Cup campaign in 2009 and he made his debut against the . Marcus Watson (born 27 June 1991) is an English rugby union player who plays at wing and fullback for Benetton in the United Rugby Championship. Watson attended St George's College, Weybridge in Surrey, as a full-back. Club career Watson started his career at London Irish in 2009, where he came through the club's academy. He only made six first team appearances before moving to Saracens in 2011. Watson never made a competitive first team appearance for Saracens but did help them win the JP Morgan Premiership Sevens. James Rodwell (born 23 August 1984) is an English professional rugby sevens player who was part of the national squad from 2008 to 2019. He ended his career with records as the Worlds most capped sevens player, having played in the most consecutive tournaments (69) and most tournaments (93) in the World Rugby Sevens Series. Mark Robertson (born 31 December 1984) is a former Scotland 7s international rugby union player. He is now a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Scottish Rugby Academy. Playing career Amateur career Robertson was educated at Earlston High School, and then played for Melrose Wasps; Melrose RFC's under 18 team. Dan Norton
Daniel John Norton (born 22 March 1988) is a former rugby union player. He is the leading all-time try scorer in the World Rugby Sevens Series with over 350 tries, beating the previous record of 244 held by Kenya's Collins Injera at the 2017 Hong Kong Sevens tournament. A product of Hartpury College, Norton played most of his career as a winger. Norton was part of the Gloucester academy and dual registered with Moseley for both the 2007–08 and 2008–09 seasons. Biography Mitchell attended leading Worth School in West Sussex and represents England in rugby sevens and won a silver medal representing Great Britain in the 2016 Summer Olympics; he is also the captain for both teams.
