Cycling at the 2004 Summer Olympics consisted of 18 events in three disciplines: *Road cycling, held at the Athens historic centre (start and finish at Kotzia Square, for the road race events) and in Vouliagmeni Olympic Centre (for the time trial events). *Track cycling, held at the Olympic Velodrome. * Mountain biking, held at the Parnitha Olympic Mountain Bike Venue. Susan DeMattei (born October 15, 1962) is an American former professional cross-country mountain bike racer. She became the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in mountain biking when she won the Bronze Medal in the inaugural Olympic Cross-Country Mountain Biking competition at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. DeMattei was inducted into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame in 1997 and, into the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame in 2012. Alison Jane Sydor (born September 9, 1966) is a Canadian retired professional cross-country mountain cyclist. She began cycling at age 20 and is a graduate of the University of Victoria. She won a silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in mountain bike, and has won three world mountain bike championships gold medals (1994 in Vail, Colorado; 1995 in Kirchzarten, Germany; and 1996 in Cairns, Australia) and the 2002 relay race in Kaprun, Austria.
