The Odia film industry, colloquially known as Ollywood, is the Odia language Indian film industry, based in Bhubaneshwar and Cuttack in Odisha, India. The name Ollywood is a portmanteau of the words Odia and Hollywood. Industry In 1974, the Government of Odisha declared film making and construction of cinema theatres as an industry in the state, and in 1976 it established the Odisha Film Development Corporation in Cuttack. History Odisha has a history of filmmaking, starting from 1936. The first Odia film is ''Sita Bibaha'', made by Mohan Sundar Deb Goswami in 1936. Drawn from the Indian epic ''Ramayana'', the story is about the marriage of Sita and Ram. The film plot was made from a drama written by Kamapala Mishra. Prepared with a budget of only Rs 30,000, the film has 14 song sequences. Shriram Panda
Sriram Panda ( or, ଶ୍ରୀରାମ ପଣ୍ଡା, born c. 1954) is an Indian Odia actor, director and a screenplay writer hailing from the Nabarangpur district, Odisha, India. Career Sriram Panda started his film career in Dhir Biswal's '' Dharitri'' directed by Nitai Palit in 1972, which was a success. In 1975 he starred in the lead role of Jajabara directed by Trimurti which was a huge hit & is still regarded as one of the classic films to be ever made in Odia film industry. A coloured version of Jajabara was later released which garnered high popularity among the masses. In 1976 he starred in 6 films 4 of which were commercially successful. He emerged as Superstar of Odisha in the 1980s and 1990s. Sisir Mishra is an Indian film director and screenwriter best known for directing Hindi and Odia language films including '' Bheegi Palkein'', ''Samay Ki Dhara'', ''Billoo Baadshaah'', ''TADA'' and ''Aseema''. In 2018 he was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award. Biography He was born in Bomkei, near Digapahandi, Brahmapur in the Ganjam district of Odisha. He is the son of Purushottam Mishra, and his father was an engineer who worked for the British Raj. Mishra completed his B.Sc degree at Khallikote College, Brahmapur and an M.Sc in Physics from Ravenshaw College, Cuttack. In 1965, Mishra left his academic career as a physics lecturer, moved to Mumbai and started his film career as an Assistant Director under Mehboob Khan (director of ''Mother India'') and Jyoti Swaroop (director of ''Padosan''). Anita Das
Anita Das (1 October 1953 – 11 May 2018) was an Indian film and television actress in Odia cinema. She received three Odisha State Film Awards during her career. Das died of cardiac arrest which resulted from a heart attack on 11 May 2018 at the age of 64. Career Anita Das made her acting debut in 1975, in the Odia film, ''Jajabara'' where she played the lead role. She predominantly appeared in more than a hundred movies since then, mostly in supporting roles as a mother. She was quite popular for essaying the role of mother in most of her films after the 1980s. Das received the Odisha State Film Award (Best Actress) for her acting in the film, ''Tapasya'' in 1980 and also received the prestigious award again for her lead role in the 1983 film, ''Bhakta Salabeg''.
