The Odia film industry, colloquially known as Ollywood, is the Odia language Indian film industry, based in Bhubaneshwar and Cuttack in Odisha, India. The name Ollywood is a portmanteau of the words Odia and Hollywood. Industry In 1974, the Government of Odisha declared film making and construction of cinema theatres as an industry in the state, and in 1976 it established the Odisha Film Development Corporation in Cuttack. History Odisha has a history of filmmaking, starting from 1936. The first Odia film is ''Sita Bibaha'', made by Mohan Sundar Deb Goswami in 1936. Drawn from the Indian epic ''Ramayana'', the story is about the marriage of Sita and Ram. The film plot was made from a drama written by Kamapala Mishra. Prepared with a budget of only Rs 30,000, the film has 14 song sequences. Prashanta Nanda
Prashanta Nanda (born 2 May 1947) is an Indian director, actor and politician from the state of Odisha. Actor-director duo Siddhanta Mahapatra and Prashanta Nanda Given 8 all time blockbuster Movies to Ollywood. He is currently a Member of Parliament at Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament, for Odisha. He worked in the Odia film industry as an actor, director, screenwriter, lyricist and playback singer. He was also a former minister in Odisha state. Career In 1962, he debuted in the movie ''Nua Bou''. Nanda worked as an actor, director, screenwriter, lyricist and playback singer. Nanda acted as male lead and directed the Hindi film Naiyya released in the year 1979. In 2009, his film ''Jianta Bhoota'' was released. In 2007, he awarded with the Lifetime achievement award in Odisha Filmfare Award. He was the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) leader and Odisha state Vice President. His elder brother was Ratna Manikya II who, after having been previously overthrown by Narendra Manikya, a cousin, was restored to the throne by the Mughal Empire, Mughals in 1695. However, in return Ghanashyam was temporarily sent to the Mughal court as a hostage. At some point, he was awarded the title of ''Barathakur'' by his brother.
