Hilton College, more commonly referred to as Hilton, is a South African Private school, private boarding school for boys located near the town of Hilton, KwaZulu-Natal, Hilton in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands and is situated on a 1,762 ha (4,350 acre) estate that includes a 550 ha (1,400 acre) wildlife reserve. Hilton College was founded in 1872 by Gould Arthur Lucas and Reverend William Orde Newnham as a non-denominational Christianity, Christian boys school. It follows English Public school (UK), public school tradition and is a full boarding school, which means all pupils live at the school, and is one of only two such remaining single-sex boys' schools (the other being Michaelhouse) to continue this practice in South Africa. Hilton's 500 pupils each have access to a personal tutor and have a bespoke academic plan, it has consistently maintained its position as the most expensive school in South Africa. Ebbo Bastard
William Eberhardt Bastard, also known as Ebbo Bastard (10 February 1912 – 14 February 1949), was a South African rugby union player from Kokstad, Natal. He predominantly played as a flanker and played for Natal and the South Africa national rugby union team. On 14 February 1949 he was shot dead by his wife's ex-husband. Personal life Bastard was educated at Hilton College. After leaving school, he started farming, which was his profession for the rest of his life. During the Second World War he joined the South African Army and was assigned to the Natal Mounted Rifles, where he saw service in the Western Desert Campaign. Career Bastard started playing rugby for Kokstad RFC and made it onto the representative team of Natal. He was highly thought of in Natal, but when trials for the 1937 Springboks tour of Australia and New Zealand were announced at Newlands Stadium, Bastard was not invited. Scotland National Rugby Sevens Team
The Scotland national rugby sevens team competes in the World Rugby Sevens Series, Rugby World Cup Sevens and the Commonwealth Games. The head coach is Ciaran Beattie, supported by manager Sean Lamont and skills coach Graham Shiel. During 2006, the side were in danger of no longer competing in the Sevens World Series due to the financial problems faced by the Scottish Rugby Union. However, they gained a reprieve when the International Rugby Board announced that a leg of the Sevens World Series would be held at Murrayfield in Edinburgh, starting in 2007. The SRU then announced that the Scotland sevens team would compete in all eight legs of the Sevens World Series, and draw players from the country's national academy. Roddy Grant (rugby Union)
Roderick Robert Grant is a Scottish rugby union coach and former player. He played as a flanker for Border Reivers, Edinburgh and Scotland sevens between 2006 and 2015, and has coached at the Scottish Rugby Academy and Edinburgh. Since 2019, he has been forwards coach for Ulster. Early life Grant was born in Jwaneng, Botswana to Scottish parents and soon after moved to Cape Town, South Africa. He attended Western Province Prep School where he started playing rugby at the age of 11. From there he moved on to Bishops where he continued his sporting career. It was here that Grant was selected to play for the South African under-15 and under-16 waterpolo sides. South Africa National Rugby Sevens Team
The South African national rugby sevens team competes in the World Rugby Sevens Series, the Rugby World Cup Sevens, the Summer Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games. Overall, the team has won the World Rugby Sevens Series 4 times, as well as having won 39 tournaments in the series. History After readmission to international sport following the ending of the apartheid ban, the team played their first sevens series in the 1993 Hong Kong Sevens, and also participated in the 1993 Rugby World Cup Sevens. Bobby Skinstad
Robert Brian Skinstad (born 3 July 1976) is a former rugby union professional player who has represented the South African national team, the Springboks. He played in the positions of flanker and number eight. Education Skinstad lived in Kloof, KwaZulu-Natal while he attended Highbury Preparatory School, he also attended Fores in Rondebosch, before boarding at Hilton College. His university studies took him to Stellenbosch University where he lived in the Simonsberg men's residence and captained the 'Maties' (University) 1st side. Early career Skinstad was selected by Western Province for the Currie Cup and Super 12, and went on to captain both sides. Wayne Fyvie (born 28 March 1972) is a South African former rugby union player. Playing career Fyvie made his test match debut for the Springboks against , during the 1996 tour of South Africa, at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria. Gary Teichmann
Gary Hamilton Teichmann (born 9 January 1967) is a retired South African professional rugby union player. He played number eight and captained the South African national team, the Springboks, between 1995 and 1999. Teichmann stands 1.95 metres tall and weighed about 100 kilograms for most of his career. His humility and fair play earned him wide respect throughout the rugby world. Early career Teichmann was born in Gwelo, Rhodesia. He moved to South Africa with his family when he was 11 years old. He was educated at Hilton College. Teichmann started his career playing club rugby for the University of Natal team in Pietermaritzburg before being spotted by the Natal Province's Currie Cup team in 1991. Hendrik Jacobus "Hentie" Martens (born 29 October 1971) is a South African former rugby union player. Playing career Martens represented at the 1990 Craven Week tournament for schoolboys and was selected for the South African Schools team in 1990. Brian Desmond Pfaff (2 March 1930 – 8 May 1998) was a South African rugby union player and first-class cricketer. Rugby union career Pfaff was born in Durban and attended Hilton College. At school he won colours for many sports, including rugby union and boxing. After school he went to the University of Cape Town to study accounting and played rugby and cricket for Western Province. Clive Ulyate
Clive Anthony Ulyate (11 December 1933 – 18 March 2018) was a South African sportsman who played international rugby union for South Africa. He also played first-class cricket, provincial hockey and provincial squash. Rugby union career Ulyate, a fly-half, played his early rugby at Hilton College, before moving on to the University of Witwatersrand RFC. He would later play provincially for Transvaal. He was capped four times for South Africa during the British Lions tour of South Africa in 1955. In the Test in Port Elizabeth, which the Springboks won, Ulyate scored a try and kicked a drop goal.
