This is a list of the Monitor Latino number-one songs of 2008. Chart rankings are based on airplay across radio states in Mexico using the Radio Tracking Data, LLC in real time. Charts are ranked from Monday to Sunday. Besides the General chart, Monitor Latino published "Pop", "Regional Mexican" and "Anglo" charts. Chart history General In 2008, nine songs reached number one on the General chart; all of these songs were entirely in Spanish. Eight acts achieved their first General number-one song in Mexico: Belanova, Juanes, Julieta Venegas, Ha*Ash, Reik, Luis Fonsi, La Oreja de Van Gogh and Banda El Recodo. "El presente" by Julieta Venegas was the longest-running General number-one of the year, staying at the top position for eleven consecutive weeks, and " Cada Que..." by Belanova was best-performing song of the year. Monitor Latino (stylised monitorLATINO) is a singles chart founded in 2003 which ranks songs on chart based on airplay across radio stations in Latin American countries and Hispanic radio stations in the United States using the Radio Tracking Data, LLC in real time. Monitor Latino started monitoring radio stations in Mexico and the United States in 2003. The company later expanded into other Latin American markets, and currently it monitors radio stations and issues music charts for 18 countries. In January 2012, Monitor Latino began surveying radio stations in the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Guatemala, publishing singles chart which were only accessible to subscribers. Alacranes Musical (English: "Musical Scorpions") are a Regional Mexican band that specialize in the Duranguense subgenre. They are from the Chicago, Illinois suburb of Aurora. Recordings The band has released several albums since its formation in November 1999, and in 2007 was nominated for a Latin Grammy for their album, ''Ahora Y Siempre''. Banda Sinaloense El Recodo de Cruz Lizárraga, often referred to simply as Banda El Recodo, is a Mexican banda formed in Mazatlán, Sinaloa in 1938; it has been under the direction of the Lizárraga family. La Arrolladora Banda El Limón de René Camacho, or simply La Arrolladora, is a Mexican banda from Mazatlán, Sinaloa. In 1997 they signed with Sony Music Latin. In 2003, they switched labels and signed with Disa Records. History Banda El Limón was formed in 1965 in El Limón de los Peraza, Sinaloa by Pedro Aramburo, Encarnación Peraza, Lino Quintero, Carlos Peraza and Pedro Peraza. The Banda began performing in the port of Mazatlán, and in 1976, Salvador Lizárraga assumed the direction of the Banda. In 1997, internal conflicts arose in the Banda, as René Camacho assumed the temporary direction while Salvador Lizárraga was recovering from a stroke. Kalimba Kadjaly Marichal Ibar (born 26 July 1982), known mononymously as Kalimba, is a Mexican singer and actor. Career Kalimba was born in Mexico City to Afro-Cuban parents.
