La Pandilla
La Pandilla was a teen music group of the 1970s, founded in 1970 by Pepa Aguirre. The group had members of both sexes, unlike most pop groups at the time. Aguirre's son, daughter, and niece formed the band; later, 2 boys were added. Their first album, ''Villancicos'', was released in late 1970. ''La Pandilla'' had initially a big impact in their home country of Spain. After a personnel change as some of the original members grew up, they experienced some backlash in the country for their song ''"El Alacrán"'' ("The Scorpion"), an innocent pop tune that made a coincidental reference to a clandestine group that was one of Francisco Franco's staunchest opponents. Franco's censors objected to the group, so they started touring Latin America more frequently. Their appeal to youth in some Latin American countries bordered in collective hysteria, a reaction that evoked that of Beatlemania in the mid-1960s. Rigoberto Tovar García (March 29, 1946 – March 27, 2005), better known as Rigo Tovar, was a Mexican musician, singer and actor. Famous for his cumbias, Tovar infused traditional Mexican and Latin music with modern instruments like the electric guitar and synthesizer and popular styles such as rock and soul music. Tovar was born and raised in Matamoros, Tamaulipas. After moving to the neighborhood of East End in Houston, Texas, his musical career began to take off in the early 1970s. Blending cumbia, tropical, and modern pop rock, he quickly gained a large following. In 1971, Tovar released his first album entitled ''Matamoros Querido'' which garnered two hits, "Matamoros Querido" and "Lamento De Amor". Dave Maclean (born José Carlos González, 29 September 1944 – 17 June 2023) was a Brazilian singer-songwriter, whose repertoire sung in English was very successful in the 1970s. Biography Born in Brazil to a Spanish father, Maclean became interested in singing and playing at the age of five. In 1969, he started a band named "Os Botões" in the ABC Region, in the Greater São Paulo. The band had its name anglicized later, becoming "The Buttons". In 1973, Som Livre, a subsidiary of Rede Globo, made a proposal for Maclean to record songs in English, so they could become part of soap opera soundtracks. At that time, being featured in the television shows with the highest audience across all TV channels in the country, would push sales of any records related to those programs. The band is known for Spanish covers of English-language pop hits, but with a distinctive Grupero style. Orfeón is a record label from Mexico, which has released many recordings for the Latin American market since at least the 1950s.D.A.
