Regional Mexican Airplay (also referred to as Regional Mexican Songs) is a record chart published by ''Billboard'' magazine. It was established by the magazine on October 8, 1994, with "La Niña Fresa" by Banda Zeta being the first number-one song on the chart. The chart mainly focuses on musical styles originating from Mexico including Mariachi, Norteño, Banda and Duranguense as well as the Mexican American community in the United States such as Tejano. These genres are collectively referred to as "Regional Mexican" under the Latin music umbrella. "El circo" ("The circus") is a 1996 song written by Jesse Armenta and recorded by Mexican group Los Tigres del Norte. The song was included in the album "Unidos para Siempre" and topped the US Billboard Hot Latin Songs and Regional Mexican Airplay charts in 1996. Composition and lyrics "El circo" is a corrido and protest song written by Jesse Armenta, who had been working with Los Tigres del Norte for decades. The lyrics describe two brothers, "Carlos" and "Raúl" (in reference to Carlos Salinas de Gortari, president of Mexico from 1988 and 1994, and his brother Raúl Salinas de Gortari), who form a "circus" (a drug cartel) and get rid of the other "circuses" in the country. After the brothers get wealthy, Raúl makes Carlos' money disappear (a reference to the Mexican peso crisis) and their circus ends. Michael Salgado (born ''Miguel Salgado'' in april 5 1971 in Stanton, Texas, United States) is a Norteño/Tejano music singer/accordionist. Biography He was born in Texas, although his family roots are in Barrancos, Chihuahua, Mexico. Michael Salgado gained prominence in the mid-1990s by looking back to the 'norteño' sound influenced by Ramon Ayala, and by subsequently introducing the style to the younger generation. He positioned his backing musicians, brother Ernie and Uncle Jamie, to play guitar and drums respectively, with the bass player being his compadre, Joe Tanguma — at the age of only 19. He began climbing the Latin American music charts in 1995 after releasing his single "Cruz de Madera". LMT, Grupo Límite, or Límite, is a Mexican Norteño and Tejano band formed in Monterrey, Mexico in 1994. The group was led by singer Alicia Villarreal until she left to pursue a solo career. History The band debuted in 1995 with the record, ''Por Puro Amor'' (sung by Beatriz Alejo Jimenez) , which sold over a million copies. The album featured singles such as "Vete", "Quiero", and "Te Aprovechas." Other subsequent albums were successful. Marco Antonio Solís Sosa (born 29 December 1959) is a Mexican musician, singer, composer, and record producer. Born and raised in Ario de Rosales, Michoacán, Solís began his musical career at the age of six, performing part of Los Hermanitos Solís. In 1975 he co-founded Los Bukis, of which he was the lead vocalist and guitarist. The band split up after nearly two decades of success, with Solís pursuing a solo career. Solís released his first solo album, '' En Pleno Vuelo'' in 1996 by Fonovisa Records. Pedro Astudillo (born December 1, 1963) is an American singer and songwriter. He was a backup vocalist for Selena y Los Dinos and has released several albums as a solo artist. Early life Astudillo was born on December 1, 1963, in Laredo, Texas, to Pedro and Paz Astudillo. He was one of the leaders of the Tejano music scene, and from an early age followed mariachi and conjunto music. He began his musical career in a duo band called Los Bad Boyz alongside his friend Joe Ojeda in their hometown Laredo in 1985. In 1987, they were brought into a band, Selena y Los Dinos, by its manager, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., after opening a show for Los Dinos at a disco in Laredo.
