Gyraulus Acutus
''Gyraulus'' is a genus of small, mostly air-breathing, freshwater snails, aquatic pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Planorbidae, the ram's horn snails. The genus ''Gyraulus'' is known from the Early Cretaceous to the present. Fossils attributed to ''Gyraulus'' sp. have been found in the lakebottom sediments of the Yixian Formation in China, dating to 125 million years ago.Pan, H. and Zhu, X. (2007). "Early Cretaceous non-marine gastropods from the Xiazhuang Formation in North China." ''Cretaceous Research'', 28(2): 215-224. The minute species '' Gyraulus crista'', although technically a pulmonate gastropod, does not use air for respiration, but instead has a mantle cavity which has much water. Distribution The distribution of this genus is Holarctic. Habitat These snail snails live on water plants in freshwater. Shell description Shell of the species within this genus are small, and are mostly almost planispiral in their coiling. Species Species within the genu ...

Planorbidae
Planorbidae, common name the ramshorn snails or ram's horn snails, is a family of air-breathing freshwater snails, aquatic pulmonate gastropod molluscs. Unlike most molluscs, the blood of ram's horn snails contains iron-based hemoglobin instead of copper-based hemocyanin. As a result, planorbids are able to breathe oxygen more efficiently than other molluscs. The presence of hemoglobin gives the body a reddish colour. This is especially apparent in albino animals. Being air breathers like other ''Panpulmonata'', planorbids do not have gills, but instead have a lung. The foot and head of planorbids are rather small, while their thread-like tentacles are relatively long. Many of the species in this family have coiled shells that are planispiral, in other words, the shells are more or less coiled flat, rather than having an elevated spire as is the case in most gastropod shells. Although they carry their shell in a way that makes it appear to be dextral, the shell of coiled pl ...

''Galba truncatula'' is the vector mainly involved in fascioliasis transmission to humans. Distribution ''Galba truncatula'' is believed to be native to Europe, but it has been introduced in other parts of world. Currently, ''Galba truncatula'' is commonly distributed in all European countries, including most Mediterranean islands such as Corsica, Malta, the Azores, Madeira, the Faroe Islands, the Balearic Islands, and the Canary Islands. Despite the fact that ''Galba truncatula'' has spread worldwide, exact distribution maps of the species are not available. In addit ...

Radix Balthica
''Radix balthica'', common name the wandering snail, is a species of air-breathing freshwater snail, an aquatic pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Lymnaeidae, the pond snails.Neubauer, Thomas A.; Rosenberg, G.; Gofas, S. (2014). Radix balthica (Linnaeus, 1758). In: MolluscaBase (2016). Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species at http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=248264 on 2017-01-10 Taxonomy The taxonomic status of certain species in the genus ''Radix'' has been disputed. Remigio (2002) reported sequence divergence within the 16S mitochondrial gene of ''Radix peregra'' and '' Radix ovata''. Furthermore, the shell morphology and alloenzyme data indicated that ''Radix peregra'' and ''Radix ovata'' are distinct. In contrast, Bargues et al. (2001) considered on the basis of ITS-2 sequence analysis, that ''R. peregra'', ''R. ovata'', and ''R. balthica'' are in fact a conspecific species. Radix Obliquata
In a positional numeral system, the radix or base is the number of unique digits, including the digit zero, used to represent numbers. For example, for the decimal/denary system (the most common system in use today) the radix (base number) is ten, because it uses the ten digits from 0 through 9. In any standard positional numeral system, a number is conventionally written as with ''x'' as the string of digits and ''y'' as its base, although for base ten the subscript is usually assumed (and omitted, together with the pair of parentheses), as it is the most common way to express value. For example, (the decimal system is implied in the latter) and represents the number one hundred, while (100)2 (in the binary system with base 2) represents the number four. Etymology ''Radix'' is a Latin word for "root". ''Root'' can be considered a synonym for ''base,'' in the arithmetical sense. In numeral systems In the system with radix 13, for example, a string of digits such as 39 ...
