The ''Farmington Daily Times'' is a daily newspaper in Farmington, New Mexico, United States. It is owned by Gannett Co., Inc. and covers northwest New Mexico and Navajo Nation. Its editor is John Moses. Gannett acquired the ''Farmington Daily Times'' in 2015 from Digital First Media. Colfax County is a county in the U.S. state of New Mexico. As of the 2010 census, the population was 13,750. Its county seat is Raton. It is south from the Colorado state line. This county was named for Schuyler Colfax (18231885), seventeenth Vice President of the United States under U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant. Colfax County is the home of Philmont Scout Ranch and the NRA Whittington Center. Deming (, ''DEM-ing'') is a city in Luna County, New Mexico, United States, west of Las Cruces and north of the Mexican border. The population was 14,855 as of the 2010 census. Deming is the county seat and principal community of Luna County. History The city is within the Gadsden Purchase of 1853, which was acquired from Mexico specifically to provide a southern route for a railroad to connect the United States with California. Socorro (, '' sə-KOR-oh'') is a city in Socorro County in the U.S. state of New Mexico. It is in the Rio Grande Valley at an elevation of . In 2010 the population was 9,051. It is the county seat of Socorro County. Socorro is located south of Albuquerque and north of Las Cruces. History Founding In June 1598, Juan de Oñate led a group of Spanish settlers through the Jornada del Muerto, an inhospitable patch of desert that ends just south of the present-day city of Socorro. As the Spaniards emerged from the desert, Piro Indians of the pueblo of Teypana gave them food and water. Therefore, the Spaniards renamed this pueblo Socorro, which means "help" or "aid". The ''Albuquerque Journal'' is the largest newspaper in the U.S. state of New Mexico. History The ''Golden Gate'' newspaper was founded in June 1880. In the fall of 1880, the owner of the ''Golden Gate'' died and Journal Publishing Company was created. Journal Publishing changed the paper name to ''Albuquerque Daily Journal'' and issued its first edition of the ''Albuquerque Daily Journal'' on October 14, 1880.
