The ''Aurora de Chile'' (English: ''Dawn of Chile'') was the first periodical in Chilean history and mostly dealt with politics and political philosophy. It was in print from Thursday, February 13, 1812, to Thursday, April 1, 1813, at which point it became '' El Monitor Araucano''. The paper had four printed pages with two columns each and was published weekly, every Thursday. Pichilemu (, ), originally known as Pichilemo, is a beach resort city and commune in central Chile, and capital of Cardenal Caro Province in the O'Higgins Region. The commune comprises an urban centre and twenty-two villages, including Ciruelos, Cáhuil, and Cardonal de Panilonco. It is located southwest of Santiago. Pichilemu had over 13,000 residents as of 2012. The Pichilemu area was long populated by the indigenous Promaucaes. European-Chilean development began in the mid-sixteenth century, as '' conquistador'' Pedro de Valdivia gave Juan Gómez de Almagro the Topocalma encomienda (which included the current territory of Pichilemu) in January 1541. ''El Expreso de la Costa'' ( en, The Express of the Coast) is a Chilean online newspaper, formerly a monthly newspaper, based in Pichilemu, O'Higgins Region. ''El Expreso'' circulated throughout the Cardenal Caro Province, of which Pichilemu is the capital. The newspaper is directed by Félix Calderón Vargas. ''El Expreso'' first edition was published on 30 June 2000, with ten more editions coming later until the newspaper's suspension in that same year.
