This is a list of neighborhoods in Roanoke city, Virginia as defined and mapped by the city of Roanoke. The city has 49 officially designated neighborhoods within its city limits. Airport The Airport neighborhood is located in far, north, central Roanoke and is bound by Roanoke County, Airport Road, Hershberger Road, and Interstate 581. As the name would suggest, the primary feature of the neighborhood is the Roanoke Regional Airport, with most development being commercial in nature beginning with the opening of Crossroads Mall in 1961. Belmont Belmont is located in central Roanoke and is bound by the Norfolk Southern shops, 13th Street, Highland Avenue and Interstate 581. Roanoke ( ) is an independent city in the U.S. state of Virginia. At the 2020 census, the population was 100,011, making it the 8th most populous city in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the largest city in Virginia west of Richmond. Salem, Virginia
Salem is an independent city in the U.S. commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 25,346. It is the county seat of Roanoke County, although the two are separate jurisdictions. The Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the city of Salem with Roanoke County, which surrounds both Salem and the neighboring City of Roanoke, for statistical purposes. Salem has its own courthouse and sheriff's office, but shares a jail with Roanoke County, which is located in the Roanoke County Courthouse complex in Salem. Blue Ridge Parkway
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Parkway and All-American Road in the United States, noted for its scenic beauty. The parkway, which is America's longest linear park, runs for through 29 Virginia and North Carolina counties, linking Shenandoah National Park to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It runs mostly along the spine of the Blue Ridge, a major mountain chain that is part of the Appalachian Mountains. Mill Mountain
Mill Mountain () is a large flat-topped mountain, high, forming the eastern end of Festive Plateau in the Cook Mountains of Antarctica. This mountain was probably sighted by the British National Antarctic Expedition (1901–04) under Captain Robert F. Scott, who gave the name "Mount Mill," after British Antarctic historian Hugh Robert Mill, to a summit in the nearby Reeves Bluffs. This area was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy photography (1959–63). Hotel Roanoke
The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center is a historic hotel located in the Gainsboro neighborhood of Roanoke, Virginia. Originally built in 1882, the hotel has been rebuilt and expanded many times. The central wing dates to 1938. The hotel is currently owned by Virginia Tech and operated under the Curio Collection by Hilton brand. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. History The original structure of the Hotel Roanoke was built in 1882 by the Norfolk and Western Railway (now part of the Norfolk Southern Railway), which had recently constructed its administrative offices in the city, bringing in over a thousand railroad workers. Virginia Western Community College (VWCC) is a public community college in Roanoke, Virginia. It is part of the Virginia Community College System. Students As of 2013, Virginia Western has over 12,000 students enrolled in the college and over half of these students are from Roanoke City or Roanoke County.
