Operation Isabella
During World War II, Operation Isabella was a Nazi German plan to be put into effect after the collapse of the Soviet Union to secure bases in Spain and Portugal for the continuation of the strangulation of Great Britain. This concept was laid out by Hitler in May 1941 but was never executed. Isabella was an early development version of a smaller-scale invasion plan later called Operation Ilona. Much like the related Operation Felix, the plan called for invasion of mainland Spain, as well as the capture of Portugal, Andorra, Gibraltar, and forward operating bases in the Azores and Cape Verde Islands. However, unlike Felix, Isabella assumed that the Spanish forces would at least be sympathetic to the Axis cause and that the invasion of Spain proper would be started only to help the Spaniards if the Allies invaded the Iberian Peninsula. Operation Herkules (german: Unternehmen Herkules; it, Operazione C3) was the German code-name given to an abortive plan for the invasion of Malta during the Second World War. Through air and sea landings, the Italians and Germans hoped to eliminate Malta as a British air and naval base and secure an uninterrupted flow of supplies across the Mediterranean Sea to Axis forces in Libya and Egypt. Extensive preparations were made for the invasion but the success of other Axis operations – including the Battle of Gazala (26 May to 21 June 1942), the Axis capture of Tobruk on 21 June and Operation Aïda, the pursuit of the Allies into Egypt – led to Herkules being postponed and then cancelled in November 1942. Unternehmen Herbstnebel ("Operation Autumn Mist") was an offensive planned by German Field Marshal Walter Model and his Army Group B operational staff in late 1944 during World War II. It envisaged a German Army attack targeting the Allied forces in eastern Belgium and Luxembourg, east of the Meuse River. Concept of the operation ''Herbstnebel'' was created as an alternative to '' Wacht am Rhein'', Adolf Hitler's plan to seize Antwerp and bottle up all Allied forces in Belgium and the Netherlands.
