Aydın Province
Aydın Province ( tr, ) is a province of southwestern Turkey, located in the Aegean Region. The provincial capital is the city of Aydın which has a population of almost 200,000 (2012). Other towns in the province include the summer seaside resorts of Didim and Kuşadası. Geography Neighboring provinces are Manisa to the north east, İzmir to the north, Denizli to the east, Muğla to the south. The central and western parts of the province are fertile plains watered by the largest river in the Aegean region the Büyük Menderes River, with the Aydın Mountains to the north and the Menteşe Mountains to the south. Aydın
Aydın ( ''EYE-din''; ; formerly named ''Güzelhisar'', Ancient and Modern Greek: Τράλλεις /''Tralleis''/) is a city in and the seat of Aydın Province in Turkey's Aegean Region. The city is located at the heart of the lower valley of Büyük Menderes River (ancient Meander River) at a commanding position for the region extending from the uplands of the valley down to the seacoast. Dalama
Dalama is a neighbourhood of the municipality and district of Efeler, Aydın Province, Turkey. Its population is 1,561 (2022). Before the 2013 reorganisation, it was a town (''belde''). It is south east of Aydın. The settlement was founded about 200 years ago by Yörüks (nomadik Turkmens) who used to form ''pazar'' (open market) in the vicinity. Ovaeymir is a neighbourhood of the municipality and district of Efeler, Aydın Province, Turkey. Its population is 6,942 (2022). The motorway O.31 separates it from the Aydın conurbation. The original location of Ovaeymir was by the Büyükmenderes river side. But the present Ovaeymir was founded after the original settlement was hit by a flood disaster about two centuries ago. In 1994, the settlement was declared a seat of township. Tepecik is a neighbourhood of the municipality and district of Efeler, Aydın Province, Turkey. Its population is 4,043 (2022). Before the 2013 Turkish local government reorganisation, 2013 reorganisation, it was a town (''belde''). Tepecik is to the south east of Aydın city center. History The area around the town was inhabited during the ancient ages and was known for stone pits of Tralles (modern Aydın) . Belde
Belde (literally "town", also known as ''kasaba'') means "large village with a municipality" in Turkish. All Turkish province centers and district centers have municipalities, but the villages (and also subdistricts) are usually too small to have municipalities. The population in some villages may exceed 2000 and in such villages a small municipality may be established depending on residents' choice. Such villages are called ''belde''. Up to 2014 the number of ''belde'' municipalities was about 1400. However, on 30 March 2014 by the act no. 6360 all villages (those with and without municipality) were included in the urban fabric of the district municipalities in 30 provinces. Thus ''belde'' municipalities in 30 provinces were abolished. The number of abolished ''belde'' municipalities is 1040. Metropolitan Municipalities In Turkey
There are 81 provinces in Turkey ( tr, il). Among the 81 provinces, 30 provinces are designated metropolitan municipalities ( tr, büyükşehir belediyeleri). Metropolitan municipalities are subdivided into districts ( tr, ilçe), where each district includes a corresponding district municipality, which is a second tier municipality.
