Johann II (Johann Maria Franz Placidus; 5 October 1840 – 11 February 1929), nicknamed the Good (german: Johann II. der Gute), was Prince of Liechtenstein from 12 November 1858 until his death in 1929. His reign of 70 years and 91 days is the third-longest of any sovereign monarch in European history, after those of King Louis XIV and Queen Elizabeth II respectively, and fourth-longest overall (for which exact dates are known) after King Louis XIV, Queen Elizabeth II, and King Bhumibol Adulyadej respectively. Prince Joseph Wenzel (Wenceslas; Venceslao) Franz Anastasius of Liechtenstein (1767–1842) was a son of Prince Karl Borromäus of Liechtenstein and Maria Anna Antonia, Countess of Dietrichstein-Weichselstädt, Baroness of Hollenburg and Finkenstein. While still a child he was destined for the Catholic priesthood and so in 1774 - at the age of nine - he was sent by his father to start his religious life at the Cathedral of Cologne. In 1783–4 (aged sixteen) he was living in Rovereto in the Italian Alps under the tutelage of ‘abate’ Carlo Tacchi (1745-1813), as recorded in the memoir of the Italian musician Giacomo Gotifredo Ferrari (1763–1842). Joseph Johann Adam (25 May 1690 – 17 December 1732) was the Prince of Liechtenstein from 1721 to his death. Born in Vienna, he was the only living son of Anton Florian, Prince of Liechtenstein and Eleonore Barbara von Thun und Hohenstein. Johann Josef Adam served under his father for a short time during the War of the Spanish Succession and later fought against the French under the Duke of Marlborough. After the Treaty of Utrecht he became Imperial Privy Counsellor in Vienna. He was the 661st Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece in Austria. He died in Valtice in 1732. Gundakar of Liechtenstein (30 January 1580 – 5 August 1658) (''Prince'' from 1623) was a member of the House of Liechtenstein and as such the owner of a large estate. He also served the Habsburg dynasty. Family He was the youngest son of Baron Hartmann II of Liechtenstein (1544–1585). His mother was Anna Maria (née Countess of Ortenburg). His brothers were Karl I and Maximilian. He received a careful education. He himself was married twice.
