James Campbell (Queensland Politician)
James Campbell (28 October 1838 – 13 September 1925) was a politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life The son of Hugh Campbell and Helen (''née'' Fraser), Campbell was born in Newtown Cook's River, New South Wales. He became a butcher and grazier. With his wife, Sarah Ann Lovell (married 1866, died 1935), Campbell had four sons and seven daughters. Politics Campbell was mayor of the Town of Toowoomba in 1882. His brother, Charles Campbell was also the town's mayor in 1886 and a member of the Queensland Legislative Council. James Campbell represented Aubigny in the Queensland Legislative Assembly from 4 March 1884 to 29 April 1893. Henry King Alford
Henry King Alford (1852–1930) was the mayor of Toowoomba, Queensland from 1911–1912. He was born on 22 July 1852 to Thomas Alford, a pioneer in the Toowoomba district, and is reputed to be the first white child born in Toowoomba. Edwin John Godsall (30 Sept 1871 – 8 May 1941) was a politician and mayor of the City of Toowoomba, Queensland. Matthew Keeffe
Matthew Keefe (died 1924) was a hotel manager, policeman and farmer who was elected mayor of Toowoomba, Queensland in 1900. Born in Kilkenny, Ireland, he emigrated to Queensland during the 1870s and joined the Queensland Police in 1879, becoming a sergeant before retiring in 1889 in Toowoomba. He then entered the hotel business, and was elected as an alderman for the Toowoomba City Council from 1896 to 1901, serving as mayor in 1900. He died on 22 March 1924 at Maryvale, Queensland (Southern Downs Region), where he had taken up agriculture. Alexander Mayes (1859–1941) was a builder and politician in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. He was Mayor of Toowoomba. Early life Alexander Mayes was born on 17 July 1859 in Largo, Fifeshire, Scotland. He learned his trade as a builder in Edinburgh, London and Glasgow. Mayes moved to Toowoomba in June 1886 at the age of 26. Business life Mayes spent 35 years in Toowoomba, becoming a prominent builder. He is known to have worked on the Toowoomba City Hall, Toowoomba Post Office, Tooowoomba Masonic Hall, Commercial Bank, Toowoomba Technical College and Vacy Hall and many private homes. Circa 1901, he built his own home ''Largo'' (now the heritage-listed Gowrie House) based on a design by Toowoomba architect, Harry Marks. Gilbert Cory
Gilbert Gostwyck Cory (1839–1924) was the mayor of Toowoomba, Queensland in 1891. Born in Paterson, New South Wales in 1839 and educated at King's School .He became a station manager after moving to Toowoomba in 1858, where he worked for James Taylor, who was also mayor of Toowoomba. Aside from being mayor, Cory served as an alderman on the Toowoomba City Council from 1889 to 1894 and was also active on the Shire of Jondaryan Council, serving as chairman in 1894 and 1895 and an alderman in 1883–1919. He had one son and four daughters. He died on 8 August 1924.
