Miguel Arraes
Miguel Arraes de Alencar (15 December 1916 – 13 August 2005) was a Brazilian lawyer and politician. He was mayor of Recife, State Deputy, Federal Deputy and three times Governor of Pernambuco. Birth Arraes was born in Araripe in the state of Ceará, but moved to Pernambuco after graduating from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro Faculty of Law. Imprisonment and exile In the military takeover of the government of Brazil in 1964 Arraes was jailed and exiled. He initially refused to resign as governor of Pernambuco and was jailed by the military government in a political prison on the island of Fernando de Noronha. Arraes remained in prison for 11 months before being granted asylum in Algeria. He remained there for 14 years and returned to Brazil in 1979. Jarbas Vasconcelos
Jarbas Vasconcelos (born August 23, 1942) is a Brazilian politician and lawyer. He represented Pernambuco in the Federal Senate from 2007 to 2015. Previously, he was governor of Pernambuco from 1999 to 2006. He is a member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party. Early life Vasconcelos was born in Vicência on August 23, 1942, to Carlindo de Moraes Vasconcelos and Aurea de Andrade Vasconcelos. Along with his eight siblings, his family moved to Recife when he was seven. Education After serving in the army for two years, Vasconcelos enrolled into the Catholic University of Pernambuco in 1964. he became interested in politics and joined the Brazilian Democratic Movement in 1966. Geraldo Júlio
Geraldo Júlio de Mello Filho (born 19 March 1971) is a Brazilian politician and a former mayor of Recife, Pernambuco. He is a member of the Brazilian Socialist Party. Political career Geraldo Júlio de Mello Filho was born in Recife, he acted in the third term of Miguel Arraes's Government of Pernambuco and, in 2000, he was the director of planning of the Administration Secretary of the Prefecture of Recife. In Eduardo Campos' government, he assumed the office of Planning Secretary in 2007 and, four years later, he was State Secretary of Economic Development. Julio was a mayoral candidate in the 2012 municipal elections, being elected in the first round with 51,15% of the valid votes, and was re-elected in the 2016 elections. João Henrique de Andrade Lima Campos (born 26 November 1993) is a Brazilian politician who has been the mayor of Recife since 2021. He was first elected as a federal deputy to the Chamber of Deputies for the state of Pernambuco during the 2018 general election as a member of the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB). He is the son of former government minister and governor of Pernambuco Eduardo Campos. Early life Campos was born on 26 November 1993 in Recife to Eduardo Campos and Renata de Andrade Lima, with Renata having established a career as an economist and state auditor.
