The City of Port Phillip was formed in 1994 with the amalgamation of the City of Port Melbourne, City of South Melbourne and the City of St Kilda, Victoria, Australia. City Of Port Phillip
The City of Port Phillip is a local government area of Victoria, Australia on the northern shores of Port Phillip, south of Melbourne's central business district. It has an area of 20.7 km² and had a population of 113,200 in June 2018. Port Phillip contains a number of varied and substantial retail, entertainment and leisure precincts. These include Bay Street (Port Melbourne), Victoria Avenue (Albert Park), Clarendon Street (South Melbourne), Armstrong Street (Middle Park), Fitzroy Street (St Kilda), Acland Street (St Kilda), Carlisle Street (Balaclava) and Ormond Road (Elwood). Louise Crawford (born 1978 in Queensland, Australia) is an Australian film and television actress, who is a Councillor and former Mayor of the City of Port Phillip. Crawford has appeared in many Australian soaps and dramas, including a role as Sgt. Karen Hatzic in primetime drama series ''City Homicide''. Political career Crawford is a member of the Victorian branch of the Australian Labor Party. Crawford is an activist for climate change action and trained with Al Gore in The Climate Reality Project. St Kilda Town Hall
St Kilda Town Hall is a grand, classically styled city hall, located on the corner of Brighton Road and Carlisle Street in St Kilda, Victoria, Australia. The first stage, never completed, was built as the municipal offices and public hall for the former City of St Kilda in 1890. Many additions, internal alterations, and changes in appearance were made in the early and mid 20th century, while serving as the municipal and social heart of St Kilda. A devastating fire in 1991 seriously affected the art collection and burnt out the hall itself, and was followed by a prize winning refurbishment and further extension. After Council amalgamations in 1994, it became the base for the larger City of Port Phillip, and further extensions and renovations have occurred. South Melbourne Town Hall
South Melbourne Town Hall is a civic building located on Bank Street in South Melbourne, Victoria, South Melbourne, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. It is of state heritage significance to Victoria being listed on the Victorian Heritage Register (H0217). History The Town Hall was built between 1879–80 to the design of noted Melbourne architect Charles Webb (architect), Charles Webb. It was built to house what was then known as the Emerald Hill Town Council, as well as a Public Hall, a Mechanics Institute and Library, the Post and Telegraph Department, the Police Department and Courthouse and Fire Brigade. In the 1930s some interior elements were refurbished and new council chamber furniture was installed, designed by Oakley and Parkes. Port Melbourne Town Hall
The Port Melbourne Town Hall was erected in 1882. The Town Hall is an important element in the historic Bay Street streetscape of inner city Port Melbourne. After the amalgamation of the City of Port Melbourne with the City of South Melbourne and the City of St Kilda in 1994 to form the City of Port Phillip, the Town Hall now functions as secondary offices for the Port Phillip City Council of the new City of Port Phillip. Architecture The architect J. J. Wild employed a free Classical Revival style architectural motifs in the form of two projecting end pavilions and a central tower, unified at ground floor level by an arcaded loggia surmounted by balustrading. The cast iron fencing at the sides is in very good condition. The Town Hall survives substantially intact as shown in an illustration of 1882, except that the cement render has been painted. Julian Hill
Julian Christopher Hill (born 4 June 1973) is an Australian politician who is currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Bruce in the House of Representatives, and was previously the 4th Mayor of Port Phillip. A member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP), he succeeded Alan Griffin at the 2016 federal election.
