Coat Of Arms Of Cluj-Napoca
The coat of arms of Cluj-Napoca is the heraldic symbol standing for the city of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The city's first recorded coat of arms dates back to 1369, and since then, the coat of arms has mostly kept its features, until 1948. In 1970 a new coat of arms was designed by the communist authorities, inserting the original heraldic symbol. The current design dates from 1996, when the former mayor Gheorghe Funar organised a contest for the new symbol of the city. Description and symbolism The current shield of Cluj-Napoca is party per fess; yellow (instead of or (heraldry), or), bearing a white (instead of argent) Dacian Draco. Emil Boc
Emil Boc (; born 6 September 1966) is a Romanian politician who was Prime Minister of Romania from 22 December 2008 until 6 February 2012 and is the current Mayor of Cluj-Napoca, the largest city of Transylvania, where he was first elected in July 2004. Boc was also the president of the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL), which proposed and supported him as Prime Minister in late 2008, from December 2004 until July 2012. On 13 October 2009, his cabinet fell after losing a motion of no confidence in Parliament. He was acting as the head of acting cabinet until a new Prime Minister and cabinet were confirmed by Parliament. On 17 December 2009, President Traian Băsescu designated him again to form a new government, receiving afterwards the vote of confidence from the Parliament. Iulian Pop (12 March 1880 – 22 November 1923) was an Austro-Hungarian and Romanian lawyer and politician, who became the first Romanian mayor of Cluj on 19 January 1919, a month after Transylvania became part of the Romanian state. He remained mayor until 13 April 1923, when he resigned for health reasons and was succeeded on an interim basis by . Octavian Utalea
Octavian Utalea (11 February 1868, Maieru ( hu, Major), Beszterce-Naszód, Kingdom of Hungary – present-day Bistrița-Năsăud County, Romania – ?) became mayor of the municipality of Cluj, Romania on 1 May 1923. He served as mayor until 14 March 1926. Among the accomplishments of his term in office were the opening of an Army Club (''Cerc Militar'') in the Reduta Palace and the founding of a School of Fine Arts (today's School of Plastic Arts) in the Central Park. He took classes at the law faculty of Cluj's Hungarian University, graduating in 1906. He followed a military career and was very active in the national liberation movement of Transylvania's Romanians, being present at the Great National Assembly of 1 December 1918. Aside from being mayor of Cluj, he held other administrative functions, for instance being prefect of Cluj County for a short time. Victor Deleu
Victor Deleu (25 May 1876 – 11 December 1939) was a politician from Romania. Deleu was born in Szilágyperecsen, Austria-Hungary, now Pericei, Sălaj County, Romania, the son of Daniel Deleu and Iuliana Cosma. His grandfather, (1804–1880), fought alongside Avram Iancu in the Revolutions of 1848–1849. His brother, (1877–1946), participated as representative of Șimleu Silvaniei at the Great National Assembly in Alba Iulia, where the Union of Transylvania with Romania was proclaimed on 1 December 1918. Victor Deleu attended elementary school in his native village from 1883 to 1887, and gymnasium at the Șimleu Silvaniei High School from 1887 1891. Nicolae Drăganu (18 February 1884 – 18 December 1939) was an Austro-Hungarian-born Romanian linguist, philologist, and literary historian. Biography Born in Zagra, Bistrița-Năsăud County, into a Greek-Catholic family, he attended primary school in his native village, followed by the Gymnasium in nearby Năsăud. Gheorghe Funar (; born September 29, 1949 in Sânnicolau Mare, Timiș County, Socialist Republic of Romania) is a nationalist Romanian politician, who rose to fame as a controversial mayor of Cluj-Napoca between 1992 and 2004. Sorin Apostu (born 8 February 1968) is a Romanian politician. A member of the Democratic Liberal Party, he was the mayor of Cluj-Napoca from December 2008 to February 2012, when he resigned while arrested in the midst of a corruption scandal. Biography Apostu was born in Focșani and attended the University of Agronomical Sciences and Veterinary Medicine.
