The City of Bayswater is a local government area in Perth, Western Australia. It was established in 1897 as the Bayswater Road Board, with a chairman elected by the board members as its leader. In 1961, it became the Shire of Bayswater following the passage of the ''Local Government Act 1960'', with a president elected by the councillors as its leader. In 1983, it achieved city status, becoming the City of Bayswater, with a mayor elected by the councillors as its leader. Since 2023, the mayor of the City of Bayswater has been popularly elected rather than elected by the councillors. The first chairman of Bayswater was Henry Thomas Halliday, who was elected to the position at the board's inaugural meeting on 7 June 1897. He resigned on 20 December 1899. Terry Kenyon
Terence "Terry" Kenyon is a former Australian municipal politician. He was a councillor for the west ward of the City of Bayswater in Western Australia between 1993 and 2017. He was mayor between 2005 and 2007, and again between 2009 and 2013. In June 2013, he was recognised as an Honorary Freeman of the City, an honour received after being a councillor continuously for 20 years, among other criteria. In 2011, Kenyon commenced legal action against fellow councillors Mike Sabatino and Mike Anderton for leaking confidential CCTV video of him. They reached a settlement in 2013. Sabatino and Anderton counter sued in September 2013, alleging Kenyon leaked confidential information about the settlement at a council dinner. John Biase D'Orazio (5 September 1955 – 11 April 2011) was an Australian politician who served as the member for Ballajura in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 10 February 2001 to 6 September 2008. He was a minister in the governments of Geoff Gallop and Alan Carpenter, and a member of the Australian Labor Party until 29 August 2006, when he resigned following several controversies. Born to Italian immigrants, D'Orazio grew up on a market garden in the Perth suburb of Bayswater. He studied pharmacy at the Western Australian Institute of Technology, later opening his own pharmacy business. In 1981, he was elected to the Bayswater council, and in 1984, he became the mayor of Bayswater, in which position he served until 2001. Maylands is a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Western Australia. Maylands is named for the inner northeastern Perth suburb of Maylands, which falls within its borders.
