West Concord, Massachusetts
West Concord is an unincorporated village and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Concord in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 6,028 at the 2010 census. Geography West Concord is located at (42.454747, -71.400495). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 9.3 km (3.6 mi). 8.8 km (3.4 mi) of it is land and 0.5 km (0.2 mi) of it (5.01%) is water. Demographics At the 2000 census there were 5,632 people, 1,844 households, and 1,296 families living in the CDP. The population density was 637.7/km (1,651.6/mi). There were 1,914 housing units at an average density of 216.7/km (561.3/mi). The racial makeup of the CDP was 83.59% White, 5.82% Black or African American, 0.11% Native American, 3.50% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 5.61% from other races, and 1.35% from two or more races. Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center
Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center (SBCC) is a maximum security prison in Lancaster, Massachusetts (though it receives mail through a post-office box in the town of Shirley). It is operated by the Massachusetts Department of Correction. It is close to the medium-security prison Massachusetts Correctional Institution – Shirley, which is directly to the north over the town border. Souza-Baranowski opened on September 30, 1998. As of January 6, 2020 SBCC housed 672 inmates in general population beds. The prison is named in honor of a corrections officer, James Souza, 29, and an instructor Alfred Baranowski, 54, who were shot in July 1972 by an inmate whose wife had smuggled in handguns into what was then the Norfolk Prison Colony. South Middlesex Correctional Center
The South Middlesex Correctional Center (SMCC) is a small, minimum security/pre-release state prison for women located in Framingham, Massachusetts. The prison opened in 1976, originally as a part of MCI-Framingham. Today, it is its own facility specifically for women. Most, if not all inmates work in the community during the day for an average wage of $7/day. Many work in fast food restaurants, as janitors, carpenters, or painters. On January 6, 2020, there was 63 inmates in general population beds. Facility description SMCC consists of one large three-story building with a basement. The first floor is used for administrative offices, while the second and third floors are used as inmate living areas. Most rooms are double-occupancy while some house more than two women. Pondville Correctional Center
The Pondville Correctional Center is a minimum security/pre-release Massachusetts state prison. It is located 36 miles southwest of Boston, Massachusetts in the town of Norfolk, Massachusetts. Because this is a minimum security facility, there are no walls or fences to keep prisoners in. Security is maintained by inmate counts and strict accountability procedures. On January 6, 2020, there were 151 inmates in general population beds. Accreditation This facility was re-accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA) signifying and adherence to national standards. Old Colony Correctional Center
Old Colony Correctional Center is a Massachusetts Department of Correction men's prison in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. The medium security facility is located in a plot of land in the Bridgewater Correctional Complex with the Bridgewater State Hospital and the Massachusetts Treatment Center. Old Colony Correctional Center Minimum Unit is under the authority of the correctional center. As of January 6, 2020 there were 553 medium and 106 minimum inmates in general population beds. The Northeastern Correctional Center is a minimum security/pre-release state prison in Massachusetts that opened in 1932. Gardner, Massachusetts
Gardner, officially the City of Gardner, is a city in Worcester County in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States. The population was 21,287 in the 2020 census. Gardner is home of such sites as the Blue Moon Diner, Dunn State Park, Gardner Heritage State Park, and Mount Wachusett Community College. History Named in honor of Thomas Gardner, the land was first settled by Europeans in 1764 and was officially incorporated as a town in 1785, after receiving land grants from the surrounding towns of Ashburnham, Templeton, Westminster, and Winchendon. In circa 1805, Gardner became a center for lumber and furniture industries, and is now known as "The Chair City" and "The Furniture Capital of New England", due to its long history of production in that industry. North Central Correctional Institution is a medium/minimum security prison located in Gardner, MA Gardner, officially the City of Gardner, is a city in Worcester County in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States. Massachusetts Treatment Center
The Massachusetts Treatment Center is a medium-security secured facility for men, operated by the Massachusetts Department of Correction. The facility is located within the Bridgewater Correctional Complex and houses both state prison inmates convicted of sex crimes and civilly committed persons deemed 'sexually dangerous' by a court of law. This civil commitment process is determined by Massachusetts General Law Chapter 123A. On January 6, 2020, there was 572 inmates in general population beds. Shirley is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. It is approximately thirty miles west-northwest of Boston. The population was 7,431 at the 2020 census.
