Flag Of Manitoba
The flag of Manitoba consists of a Red Ensign defaced with the shield of the provincial coat of arms. Adopted in 1965 shortly after the new national flag was inaugurated, it has been the flag of the province since May 12 of the following year. Its adoption was intended to maintain the legacy of the Canadian Red Ensign as the country's unofficial flag, after the adoption of the Maple Leaf Flag in 1965. Manitoba's flag has been frequently mistaken for the flag of the neighbouring province of Ontario, which is also a Red Ensign with its respective coat of arms. This has led some Manitobans to call for a new and more distinct flag. Kathy Bardswick is a Canadian business executive. From 2002 to 2016, she was the President and CEO of The Co-operators Group Ltd, a Canadian insurance cooperative based in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. She is one of a handful of women at the helm of the top 100 companies in Canada. Early life and education Bardswick is one of six children born to Bill Bardswick and his wife Annastasia (née MacNeil). She earned her B.S. degree in mathematics from the University of Manitoba, and her Master of Business Administration from McMaster University. True North Sports and Entertainment Limited (TNSE or TNS&E) is a Canadian company based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, that owns and operates Canada Life Centre in downtown Winnipeg and the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League. The company also owns the Jets' minor league affiliate, the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League. Aside from hockey, TNSE is also involved in real estate with True North Square, and are active in bringing high-profile concerts and entertainment acts to Winnipeg. Mark Chipman
Mark Chipman, (born 1960) is a Canadian hockey executive, businessman, and lawyer. Chipman is best known as the chairman of True North Sports & Entertainment, which owns the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League and Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is also the team's governor and currently a member of the National Hockey League Board of Governors' Executive Committee. Education Chipman attended St. Paul's High School in Winnipeg, graduating in 1979. From 1979 to 1983, he studied economics at the University of North Dakota, while playing football for the Fighting Sioux. He obtained his J.D. degree from the same institution in 1985. Samuel Bronfman
Samuel Bronfman, (February 27, 1889 – July 10, 1971) was a Canadian businessman and philanthropist. He founded Distillers Corporation Limited, and is a member of the Canadian Bronfman family. Biography Samuel Bronfman was born in Otaci, Soroca uyezd, Bessarabia, then part of the Russian Empire (present-day Moldova), one of eight children of Mindel and Yechiel Bronfman. Saidye Rosner Bronfman (December 9, 1896 – July 6, 1995) was a Canadian-Jewish philanthropist. Her husband, Samuel Bronfman (1891–1971), founded the Seagram, Seagram Company and the family took a leading role in the History of the Jews in Canada, Canadian-Jewish community. Early life Her mother, Priscilla Berger Rosner (1876–1951), was a homemaker who was also an immigrant to Canada from Odessa. William Alexander Blaikie (June 19, 1951 – September 24, 2022) was a Canadian politician. George Montegu Black II
George Montegu Black II (June 3, 1911 – June 29, 1976) was a Canadian business executive who served as the president of Canadian Breweries during the 1950s. He was the father of businessmen Montegu and Conrad Black. Life and career He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, as the only son of businessman George Montegu Black Sr. and his wife, Gertrude Maxwell Moffat. He attended the preparatory school Appleby College in Oakville, Ontario, then took a short course at McGill University before attending the University of Manitoba, from which he graduated in 1933. Black became a chartered accountant in 1937. Salisbury House (restaurant)
Salisbury House is a restaurant chain based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Known locally as "Sals", the chain is considered a Winnipeg institution. The first Salisbury House restaurant was founded in downtown Winnipeg in 1931 by Ralph Erwin (September 2, 1902 – June 5, 1983), who named the venture after the salisbury steak. Erwin disliked the term 'hamburger' so named his burger a "nip" to market his hamburgers as a small 'nip' or bite of Salisbury steak. The restaurant has twelve locations in Winnipeg and employs over 500 people. In 1979 Erwin sold his majority interest in the chain to a group of investors. In 2001, it was bought from its then Montreal owners by a group of local investors. In the mid-2000s a location on the newly opened Esplanade Riel pedestrian bridge opened.
