List Of Magnapop Band Members
Magnapop is an alternative rock band based in Atlanta, Georgia. Formed in 1989, the band has consistently included songwriting duo Linda Hopper as vocalist and Ruthie Morris on guitar. Magnapop has had a variety of bass guitarists and drummers to fill out the band. Linda Hopper co-founded the indie pop group Oh-OK in the 1981, with the band's line-up later including drummer David McNair. That group dissolved a few years later and in 1989, Ruthie Morris moved to Atlanta from West Palm Beach, Florida where the two were introduced by a mutual acquaintance and began songwriting when the first met. The duo had a difficult time finding collaborators to form a complete band (as Hopper described it, "We had to beg people to come and play with us.") Linda Hopper
Linda Elizabeth Hopper is the vocalist for the Atlanta, Georgia-based rock group Magnapop. Her pop punk/power pop vocal style helped to define the band's sound and she has co-written their minor hit singles " Slowly, Slowly" and " Open the Door". Prior to the formation of Magnapop, Hopper was a member of the Athens, Georgia music scene in the early 1980s, which included R.E.M., The B-52s, and her own band Oh-OK. History Hopper is a native of Marietta, Georgia who moved to Athens to attend the University of Georgia to study art in the late 1970s. There, she befriended Michael Stipe in an art design class and she introduced him to her friends. The two became involved in the early local music scene and formed the short-lived experimental music group Tanzplagen along with Stipe's sister Lynda and other local musicians. ''The Circle Is Round'' is the sixth studio album by American alternative rock/pop punk band Magnapop. Reception For '' Clash'', Will Fitzpatrick gave the album seven out of 10. The editorial staff of AllMusic Guide gave the release 3.5 out of five stars, with reviewer Heather Phares, writing that the band sounds as good as ever and of this music, "all of this looking back never feels too bogged down by nostalgia, even when they revisit their earliest days". ''Magnapop'' is the debut album by Magnapop, released in 1992 and re-released with bonus tracks on July 29, 1997. Recording and release Four of the tracks—"Favorite Writer", "Chemical", "Complicated", and "Merry"—were recorded in John Keane Studio, Athens, Georgia in December 1990 with Linda Hopper's friend Michael Stipe producing. (The band also recorded the song "Texas", but subsequently re-recorded it for their first proper studio album, ''Hot Boxing''.) The rest were self-recorded through March 1992 at Furies Studio in Atlanta suburb Marietta. Creative Loafing
Creative Loafing is an Atlanta-based publisher of a monthly arts and culture newspaper/magazine. The company publishes a 60,000 circulation monthly publication which is distributed to in-town locations and neighborhoods on the first Thursday of each month. The company has historically been a part of the alternative weekly newspapers association in the United States. Creative Loafing began as a family-owned business in 1972 by Deborah and Chick Eason, expanding to other cities in the Southern United States in the late 1980s and 1990s. In 2007 it doubled its circulation with the purchase of the ''Chicago Reader'' and ''Washington City Paper''; the $40 million debt it incurred, along with an economic recession, forced the company into bankruptcy one year later. Chase Park
''Chase Park'' is the fifth studio album from Magnapop, released on September 4, 2009. The recording is the first from the band released independently on the vanity label The Kraft Records. Lead songwriters Linda Hopper and Ruthie Morris began writing for the album after they ceased touring for ''Mouthfeel'' in 2006 and the track "Future Forward" debuted on the 2005 live album '' Magnapop Live at Maxwell's 03/09/2005''. The album was initially distributed digitally through online retailers without a physical format release in 2009. In the 2009 Georgia floods, Morris lost much of her musical equipment, Magnapop memorabilia, and the first Compact Disc pressing of ''Chase Park''. Atlanta musicians—including former Magnapop bandmate Tim Lee and Amy Ray—threw a benefit concert to assist her in replacing her losses on December 15, 2009.
