This is a list of Members of Parliament (MPs) elected to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom by Welsh constituencies for the fifty-eighth Parliament of the United Kingdom (2019–present). It includes both MPs elected at the 2019 general election, held on 12 December 2019, and those subsequently elected in by-elections. The list is sorted by the name of the MP, and MPs who did not serve throughout the Parliament are ''italicised''. New MPs elected since the general election are noted at the bottom of the page. In the United Kingdom, a member of Parliament (MP) is an individual elected to serve in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Electoral system All 650 members of the UK House of Commons are elected using the first-past-the-post voting system in single member constituencies across the whole of the United Kingdom, where each constituency has its own single representative. Elections All MP positions become simultaneously vacant for elections held on a five-year cycle, or when a snap election is called. The Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011 set out that ordinary general elections are held on the first Thursday in May, every five years. The Act was repealed in 2022. With approval from Parliament, both the 2017 and 2019 general elections were held earlier than the schedule set by the Act. Carmarthen East and Dinefwr ( cy, Dwyrain Caerfyrddin a Dinefwr) is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom represented since 2010 by Jonathan Edwards of Plaid Cymru. 2012 Cardiff South And Penarth By-election
Following the resignation of the sitting MP Alun Michael on 22 October 2012, a by-election for the Cardiff South and Penarth Westminster constituency was held on 15 November 2012. Stephen Doughty of the Labour Party won the election with 47.3% of the vote. The by-election was held on the same day as the Manchester Central and Corby by-elections, and the inaugural Police and Crime Commissioner elections. Background The seat has been held by Labour since its creation in 1983. Cardiff South and Penarth ( cy, De Caerdydd a Phenarth) is a constituency created in 1983 represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2012 by Stephen Doughty, a Labour Co-op MP. It is the largest such entity in Wales, with an electorate of 75,175 and one of the most ethnically diverse. History Creation and boundary history Prior to 1983 Penarth had been part of the abolished Barry constituency, represented by the Conservative backbencher Sir Raymond Gower.
