Los Angeles Sharks
The Los Angeles Sharks were an ice hockey team that played in the World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1972 to 1974. Their primary home arena was the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena but they sometimes played at the Long Beach Sports Arena when the Sports Arena had other contractual obligations. After the 1973–74 season, the franchise moved to Detroit to become the Michigan Stags and again mid-season to Baltimore to become the Baltimore Blades. The franchise was originally meant to be called the Los Angeles Aces, but took the "Sharks" name after the proposed San Francisco Sharks franchise (not to be confused with the current NHL San Jose Sharks) was transferred to Quebec and became the Nordiques before the WHA began play. Ted McCaskill
Edward Joel McCaskill (October 29, 1936 – March 3, 2016) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played four games in the National Hockey League and 91 games in the World Hockey Association between 1968 and 1974. He played with the Minnesota North Stars, and he then served as player-coach with the Los Angeles Sharks. Playing career McCaskill played junior hockey with the Kitchener Canucks and later the Kapuskasing Huskies, then made the move to the UK, playing two years in the British Ice Hockey Elite League. Upon returning to the US, he became a dominant force with the Nashville Dixie Flyers, and his offensive prowess earned the attention of NHL clubs, however, he would spend most of his playing years in the Western Hockey League with the Vancouver Canucks and Phoenix Roadrunners. Lawrence Douglas "Larry" Mavety (29 May 1942 – 4 December 2020) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player, and former coach and executive in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), with both the Belleville Bulls and the Kingston Frontenacs.
