A lighthouse is a tower, building, or other type of physical structure designed to emit light from a system of lamps and lenses and to serve as a beacon for navigational aid, for maritime pilots at sea or on inland waterways. Kudahuvadhoo
Kudahuvadhoo (Dhivehi: ކުޑަހުވަދޫ) is one of the inhabited islands of Dhaalu or South Nilande Atoll in the Maldives. History ''Hawittas'' Kudahuvadhoo has one of the mysterious mounds known as ''hawittas''. These mounds are the ruins of Buddhist temples from the pre-Islamic period (before the 10th century) that have not been excavated yet. Thor Heyerdahl, who explored the island in the early 1980s, wrote that the ancient coral-stone mosque of Kudahuvadhoo possesses some of the finest masonry ever seen in the world. Islam In Kudahuvadhoo Kudahuvadhoo Loamaafaanu (official copper plates with inscriptions), provides that king Al-Sultan Valla Dio Kalaminjaa Siri Raa-Araa Desvaru Mahaa Radun (Dhivehi: އައްސުލްޠާން ވައްލާ ދިއޯ ކަލަމިންޖާ ސިރީ ރާއަރާދޭސްވަރު މަހާރަދުން), who ruled the Maldives from 1233.AD to 1258.AD was responsible for spreading Islam to the island. Thuraakunu (Haa Alif Atoll)
Thuraakunu (Dhivehi: ތުރާކުނު) is the northernmost island in Maldives, one of the fourteen inhabited islands of Haa Alif Atoll and is geographically part of the ''Ihavandhippolhu'' Atoll in the Maldives. It is an island-level administrative constituency governed by the Thuraakunu Island Council. History Thuraakunu is the closest island to Minicoy. Formerly there was direct trade between both, and fishermen from both islands used to visit each other. This exchange continued even after Minicoy became part of the Indian Union after independence. However, after 1956 the Indian government forbade these visits. Now, despite the geographical proximity and ethnographic similarities, people from both islands are not allowed to meet each other. Raimmandhoo (Dhivehi: ރަތްމަންދޫ) or Raiymandhoo is one of the inhabited islands of Meemu Atoll. Geography The island is south of the country's capital, Malé. The land area of the island is in 2018. The island was described as having an area of in 2004 and 2007. Ecology Parrotfishes, snappers, surgeonfishes and wrasses are common in the waters around the island. Nilandhoo (Faafu Atoll)
Nilandhoo (Dhivehi: ނިލަންދޫ) is the capital of Faafu Atoll, a region with five inhabited islands. It is the largest and most populated island in the region, and includes historical sites such as foah'mathi and Aasaari Miskiy and a school. Foah'mathi is a historical site with a Buddhist temple under it, while Aasaari Miskiy is the second mosque built in the Maldives. Archaeology Buddhist remains, including a stupa, are found on the island, indicating that it was inhabited in the past. A team of Norwegian archaeologists conducted an excavation during Thor Heyerdahl's visit. Geography The island is southwest of the country's capital, Malé. Malé is the Capital (political), capital and most populous city of the Maldives. With a population of 211,908 in 2022 within its administrative area and coterminous geographical area of , Malé is also one of the List of cities proper by population density, most densely populated cities in the world. The city is geographically located in the southern edge of North Malé Atoll (Kaafu Atoll).
