	Azerbaijan Azerbaijan (, ; az, Azərbaycan ), officially the Republic of Azerbaijan, , also sometimes officially called the Azerbaijan Republic is a transcontinental country located at the boundary of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. picture info	ANAS Central Library Of Science The ANAS Central Library of Science (Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences) was founded in 1923 in Baku, Azerbaijan. History After the biggest Library in Transcaucasia was shut down for some years in 1920, Baku needed a new library. In November 1923, the ANAS Central Library of Science began as the office of bibliography of the Azerbaijan Society of Research and Investigation (Azərbaycanı Tədqiq və Tətəbbö Cəmiyyəti) or ATTC. It was supported by individuals including Nariman Narimanov, Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev, Taghi Shahbazi, and Hanafi Zeynalli. The founding director was Alexander Vasilyevich Baqriyin. On opening, the library held 430 books and 1200 manuscripts. In August 1925, in order to prevent duplication, the library and the bibliography office became one, the Library-Bibliography Bureau. 	National Library Of Azerbaijan The Mirza Fatali Akhundov National Library of Azerbaijan (Azerbaijani: ''Mirzə Fətəli Axundov adına Azərbaycan Milli Kitabxanası'') is the national library of the Republic of Azerbaijan, located in Baku and founded in 1922. It is named after Mirza Fatali Akhundov, an Azerbaijani dramatist and philosopher. The library is located on Khagani Street and overlooks Rəşid Behbudov Avenue and Nizami Street. Its facades feature the statues of various writers and poets: Nizami Ganjavi, Mahsati, Uzeyir Hajibeyov, Shota Rustaveli, Alexander Pushkin and several others. A vast, eight-stage repository occupies the four floors of the building and is equipped with special elevators, which deliver the books to the outlets. The capacity of reading rooms is 500 seats. History In late 1918, the Cultural-Educational Department of the Association of Consumer Societies of Azerbaijan decided to open a public library. Providing the collection for the new library proved to be a difficult task since there was no large-scale publication in the country at the time. The library's initial collection included a few hundred items mostly acquired from personal book collections and its readership was very limited. In 1921, it was named after Mirza Alekper Sabir in commemoration of the tenth anniversary of his death.
