Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . There are now both domestic and international competitions in a number of countries, including the Speedway World Cup, whilst the highest overall scoring individual in the Speedway Grand Prix events is pronounced the world champion. Les Collins
Leslie 'Les' Collins (born 24 May 1958) is a former speedway rider. He finished runner-up in the 1982 Speedway World Championship as well as winning the Intercontinental Final in 1982, the British Under-21 Championship in 1977 and the British League Riders' Championship in 1980. Career Crewe, Stoke & Belle Vue Born in Manchester, England, Collins started his career with the Crewe Kings before moving Belle Vue Aces. He was loaned to the Stoke Potters in 1976 but in 1977 he made a place with the Aces his own, riding alongside brother Peter and family friend Chris Morton. Garry Flood (born 1952) is an Australian former Motocross and motorcycle speedway rider who was eight times motocross champion of Australia and was capped by Australasia in speedway. Motocross career Flood won eight Australian Motocross Championships. Mark Fiora
Mark Fiora (born 16 May 1962 in Mount Barker, South Australia) is a retired Australian international Motorcycle speedway rider. He is a four time South Australian Champion, and winner of the Australian Best Pairs championship in 1988 with Craig Hodgson. Fiora also rode for 13 different teams in the United Kingdom between 1981 and 1988. Career Australia "Felix" Fiora, as he was known, was one of the earliest graduates of Adelaide's Under-16 Sidewinders Speedway and started his senior racing career on South Australia's speedway's Rowley Park (Adelaide) and Riverview ( Murray Bridge) and was seen by many as a possible successor to John Boulger as South Australia's best rider. Tony Featherstone (speedway Rider)
Anthony James Featherstone (July 31, 1949 – October 30, 2021) was a Canadian professional ice hockey forward who played 130 games in the National Hockey League for the California Golden Seals and Minnesota North Stars. Michael Farrell (born 20 April 1955) is an Australian former motorcycle speedway rider who rode for the Exeter Falcons and Leicester Lions. Lars Ericsson (born 16 April 1956) is a Swedish former motorcycle speedway rider who rode for Indianarna in the Swedish First Division and Leicester Lions in the British League. Reidar Eide (6 November 1940 – February 1999) was a Norwegian motorcycle speedway rider who was champion of Norway on five occasions.
