The Italy national rugby union team (Italian: ''Squadra nazionale italiana di rugby'') represents Italy in men's international rugby union. The team is known as ''gli Azzurri'' (the light-blues). Savoy blue is the common colour of the national teams representing Italy, as it is the traditional colour of the royal House of Savoy which reigned over the Kingdom of Italy from 1860 to 1946. Italy has played international rugby since 1929, and for decades was considered one of the best European teams outside the Five Nations Championship. Since 2000, Italy has competed annually in the Six Nations Championship with England, France, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Oscar Collodo
Oscar Collodo (born 16 August 1958) is a former Swiss Italian rugby union footballer. Collodo played mainly at fly-half. Collodo was born in Bern, Switzerland. He played 15 Test matches for Italy between 1977 and 1987, scoring a total of 47 points. He made his international debut against Poland on 23 October 1977 when he kicked a conversion. He continued playing for Italy that season in the FIRA Championship, but did not play again for Italy again until 1986. He played in the inaugural 1987 Rugby World Cup and played against New Zealand (the All Blacks) in the first ever World Cup match. Edgardo Venturi (born Pieve di Cento, 27 July 1962) is a former Italian rugby union player and a current sports director. He played as wing. Venturi played for OVA Pieve di Cento, where he first started aged 16, at the Series C, and would play from 1978/79 to 1982/83. He moved then to Rugby Rovigo, where he played from 1983/84 to 1992/93. Antonio Colella (born 4 September 1961 in Rome) is a former Italian rugby union player and a current sports director. He played as a lock. Club career Colella played for L'Aquila Rugby, from 1981/82 to 1999/2000. He had his first game at 17 January 1982, aged 20 years old, thanks to head coach Loreto Cucchiarelli. Alessandro Ghini (born Parma, 4 May 1961) is a former Italian rugby union player and a current coach. He played as a scrum-half. Ghini started his player career at Rugby Parma F.C. 1931, where he premiered in the first team in 1977, aged only 15 years old. He played for Parma, from 1976/77 to 1988/89. Mauro Gardin (born 27 March 1961, in Padua) is a former Italian rugby union player who played as lock. Club career He started his career at CUS Pisa, like his brother Fabrizio, who also would be an international player, where he played until 1977/78.
