The Card Player
''The Card Player'' (Italian: ''Il cartaio'') is a 2004 giallo film directed by Dario Argento. The film stars Stefania Rocca and Liam Cunningham and is Argento's second giallo feature of the decade (following '' Sleepless''). The film features a brief role by Fiore Argento, the director's eldest daughter. She had previously appeared in her father's films '' Phenomena'' and '' Demons''. Plot The film centers around a serial killer known as "The Card Player", who is kidnapping young women in Rome. Using a webcam set-up, the killer challenges the police by forcing them to play hands of Internet poker. If the police lose, the kidnapped victim is tortured and murdered on-screen. When a British tourist is among the girls murdered, policeman John Brennan (Cunningham) is assigned the case and quickly teams up with Italian detective Anna Mari (Rocca). Diego Abatantuono
Diego Abatantuono (born 20 May 1955) is an Italian cinema and theatre actor, and screenwriter, three-time winner of the Nastro d'Argento. Biography and career Abatantuono was born in Milan to a father of Apulian origin and a mother from Como. The latter worked as wardrober in a Milanese jazz and later cabaret club, ''Derby'', whose owner was Abatantuono's uncle. He started to work at ''Derby'' first in lighting, then as artistic director and later as an actor. His first approach to cinema took place thanks to the comedic group , who brought him with them to audition. Giuseppe Avati, better known as Pupi Avati (born 3 November 1938), is an Italian film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is known to horror film fans for his two giallo masterpieces, ''The House with Laughing Windows'' (1976) and '' Zeder'' (1983). Early life and career Pupi Avati was born in Bologna in 1938. After attending school and studying Political Science at the University of Florence, he started working at a frozen food company. At the same time, he developed a passion for jazz, becoming a proficient clarinetist. In the second half of the 1950s, he formed and played in the Doctor Dixie Jazz Band, of which Lucio Dalla was also a member. Although he initially intended to be a professional musician, Avati felt he lacked the necessary talent. ''La rivincita di Natale'', internationally released as ''Christmas Rematch'', is a 2004 Italian comedy-drama film directed by Pupi Avati. It is the sequel of the 1986 film ''Christmas Present''. Plot In Bologna, Franco, Lele, Stefano and Ugo, once old friends once, reunite for the Christmas holidays. Franco, who was defeated 18 years before, is now a great industrialist and film producer, and he is going to have the rematch of a poker game played many years ago. Massimo Boldi
Massimo Antonio Boldi (born 23 July 1945) is an Italian stand-up comedian and actor. Biography Boldi was born in Luino on 23 July 1945. In 1955 his family moved to Milan, where he joined evening classes and began working as a window-dresser and then as a door-to-door salesman for a pastry company. In 1968 he started performing in cabaret. In the 1970s he did not perform, but managed a ''bar-latteria'' in Milan. On 29 September 1973 he married Marisa Selo (cousin of Formula One driver Michele Alboreto). Their marriage lasted until Selo's death on 8 April 2004. Artistic careers Drummer Boldi entered show business as a drummer. Christian De Sica (; born 5 January 1951) is an Italian actor and film director. Life De Sica was born in Rome the second son of Italian director Vittorio De Sica and Spanish actress María Mercader. His first cousin once removed was Ramón Mercader, the murderer of Leon Trotsky. After attending Liceo classico in Rome, where he had Carlo Verdone as his deskmate, De Sica worked in a hotel in Venezuela, where he began his career as an artist. He enrolled in Lettere (Literature and Arts) at La Sapienza university (1970) but did not graduate. He was attracted to music, and participated in the Sanremo Festival singing "Mondo mio" ("My World") (1973). Neri Parenti (born 26 April 1950, in Florence) is an Italian film director and writer. He is known for comedy films, including the series starring Paolo Villaggio playing the character Ugo Fantozzi, and a later series of '' cinepanettoni'' - zany comedy films scheduled for release during the Christmas period. Silvio Muccino (born 14 April 1982) is an Italian actor, film director and screenwriter. Biography Muccino was born in Rome, Italy, on 14 April 1982. After graduating from a Roman High School dedicated to the arts, he enrolled in the School of the Arts of Rome's La Sapienza University.
